4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Airport is very close by which helps. Not much else in terms of public transportation though.

5 College Sophomore

Transportation: It's easy and usually cheap to get around town--even free if you're a walker.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: Vandy Vans only run from 5pm-5am so there aren't many options to getting around campus during the day. The public bus only runs on the streets outside campus so they aren't the best option, unless you want to go somewhere off campus

The Nashville public transportation system is not incredibly effective. Though there is a bus system, it isn't very convenient, nor do students utilize it on a regular basis. Students will use their own car, borrow a car, or split a
cab fare.

While it may seem discouraging that Nashville's public transit system won't help you very much at Vandy, it is important to realize that campus is right next to downtown, and it's in walking distance of anything you need. Unless you're going downtown all alone, which is unlikely, the cost will be very low even without a subway or a good bus system.

Best Ways to Get to the Airport
  • A cab ride to the airport costs $20.
  • From Vandy, just take I-40 east for about 15 minutes. The University will occasionally run shuttle service from freshmen residence halls before major breaks, but the best way to get to the airport if you don't have a car or know someone who does is to split the cab fare between a few friends.
