Campus Strictness: I think the things that they are strict on are the things that most students have a tendency to not violate, so they feel that they can be strict because there will be no backlash and no fighting. The things that most students violate tend to be glazed over, or they just look the other way.

Campus Strictness: Sometimes it can seem a little much, but being in Nashville forces the school to enact additional safety precautions.

Campus Strictness: The Vanderbilt Police are a joke and RAs are usually pretty easygoing. I've seen RAs partying with their hall mates even though they were underage.

Campus Strictness: Very lax environment; the school overall is not strict, and trusts the students.

Campus Strictness: Vanderbilt is not that strict, they offer a lot of freedoms in regards to normal living situations. I live in a co-ed house this year which I really enjoy, and there aren't really any strict rules about visitation or like curfew or anything. They are strict about the honor code, but it's not like they're out to get you.

Vandy’s stance on strictness can be summed up by one freshman RA, who, when asked about his enforcement policies simply said, “be reasonable.” The University does a tremendous job of allowing students to alleviate their stress or repression in an environment where Vandy students can have a good time. Still, they can easily get help if they need it. For the most part, Vandy Police, in particular the VUPD Officers assigned to Greek Row, exist as a form of formal crowd control and will not step in unless things get really out of control.

Campus strictness will be on the rise, as Vanderbilt has made it very clear that it intends to crack down. Certainly, the days of standing on a frat house balcony and raising your glass to passing VUPD has passed, but it is not clear to what extent things will change.
