Facilities: Unbeatable campus. Everything is beautiful and state of the art. Facilities make anything possible at Vandy, you get what you pay for and then some.

Transportation: Its nice to have a car here but not necessary, Vandy vans and zipcars are the way to go freshman year, then bring a car your 2nd year.

Greek Life: The best greek life you'll get at a top twenty school. Fun parties, people go out at least 3-4 nights a week. Parties feel safe and fun, never short on alcohol or good music. Top tier frats and sororities only hangout with each other, and most non greeks are social awkward or international kids.

Health & Safety: If you take advantage of all of the resources Vanderbilt offers, everyone should feel safe here. Although there are a few sketchy people in areas close to campus, you never see or hear of anything happening on campus itself. Don't walk alone at night, don't be in parking structures alone at night. Student health is amazing, and you have close access to one of the best hospitals in the country.

Local Atmosphere: Nashville is a great place to live, a lot going on and off campus.

Campus Dining: Campus dining is quite good, and if the traditional cafeterias aren't for you, there are plenty of other ways you can use your meal plan.

Drug Safety: Alcohol usage is very prevalent, drugs are also apparent too. You can definitely avoid it if you want to though.

Campus Housing: The Commons have beautiful dorms. Housing does go down after freshman year, but the new dorms at Kissam should make high quality housing available for sophomores, juniors, and seniors as well.

Greek Life: Greek life here is very prevalent. About 50% of girls are in a sorority and 30% of guys in a fraternity. Frat parties dominant weekend activities. You aren't socially excluded for being in a frat or sorority, but there is less connection to the party scene.

Facilities: Absolutely beautiful campus, especially in the fall. Vanderbilt is a national arboretum, so there are plenty of trees and green space. Facilities are all top notch.

Campus Strictness: Immunity rule makes it difficult to a student to get in trouble for seeking help for themselves or others. Parties get shut down in the Commons, but rarely in off campus or main campus events.

Weather: It rains sporadically here, but it is nice. We are in November and it is still in the sixties.

Academics: Going to be a Econ/Political Science major. Courseload isn't too heavy, and I like all my professors.

Guys & Girls: Both guys are girls are extremely attractive. Both are very into partying, and the hookup scene is most prevalent. Hard to find a guy who wants to be more than friends with benefits.

Majors: I am only a freshman, so this question does not necessarily apply to me yet.

Majors: I have heard the Center for Profession Development is quite good, but I have not had a chance to use it quite yet. They did, however, help me create a resume.

Computers: VUprint is extremely helpful in terms of printing something off my personal laptop from a school printer. Computer labs are there if you need them, usually open.

Any student beginning a college career will pass through the phase of questioning his or her decision. For Vanderbilt students, this phase is a short one. The beauty and excitement of campus quickly pushes away any negative thoughts. Southern hospitality is alive and strong around Vanderbilt, and for those out-of-towners, it’s usually a welcome surprise. Taking the time to meet new people, whether they are Southern natives or people from across the country, will make the transition from high school to college a lot smoother. Finding your niche at any college is the most important thing to having a successful four years. Vanderbilt is big enough to accommodate almost anyone’s desires and small enough to make this campus feel like home for the years you spend here.

While Vanderbilt has a lot of positive qualities, it isn’t the best choice for everyone. Choosing Vanderbilt means choosing to be in a situation where name-brand clothes and high-end cars have a certain amount of importance. Most students come from white upper-class families, and while they may not all fit the stereotype of wealthy snobs, money is in abundance for most on campus. More than anything, however, choosing Vanderbilt means choosing an extremely difficult and intense academic institution. You will pull your share of all-nighters, sit through any number of obvious “weed-out courses,” stress out over harsh grading curve, and panic when professors refuse to move deadlines despite countless other exams and papers. But thankfully, Vanderbilt embodies a work-hard, play-hard lifestyle. The second you make it through the more hellacious periods of school, there will be countless opportunities to throw all cares aside and enjoy your time at Vanderbilt.
