3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Policies are not affecting students' lives.

4 College Freshman

Computers: We've got a choice of Mac and Windows.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I like my program here. The teachers are understanding and they have all taught in a elementary classroom at some point in their life. If I had do it all over again I would through here because of the experience with the staff I have had. In the future I'm hoping to get a job in elementary teaching grades three through five is my idea area but willing to spread my wings. I'm worries about finding a job just because the amount of teachers there are now compared to previous years.

Majors: To get into the program here at Valley City we have to get approval by our adviser, two faculty okays, and then to take the PPSAT one test and get within the required scores. It really isn't a challenge at all. The staff in charged of admission to the program keep us updated with what we still need to have done and what we already have done. It is very import to take the PPSAT otherwise you can not get into the program at all.

Off-Campus Housing: I do not live in off-campus apartments or housing. I know people who live in apartment that they say aren't very safe and they don't exactly like it, but it is affordable and in walking distance to campus. Our school does have apartments available for married couples who come to campus, but they are not very available because of how few there are.

Local Atmosphere: Previous years in Valley City have been better than this year. Crime did go up for some reason this year in the city but nothing to big. Its mainly families and college students who are in the town. There are older people but again its a younger crowd living here. While there may not be a lot to do, as students we usually are finding stuff to do.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: While there is one all male and one all female group there aren't really seen as any different among the others. There are groups for honor society and also for other academic purposes but again not much is seen as different. Everyone on campus includes, or tries to, include everyone.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Valley City is a small campus compared to ones like SDSU or NDSU. There aren't much crime activities that go on, if they do its between students and more so as a joke rather than being a crime. I feel safe walking on campus because we get to know one another and the number of students on campus is actually smaller than my high school which is very nice.

Campus Housing: While some buildings are older, there are new buildings and classrooms being remodeled. For example one of the dorms a few years ago got remodeled and is now suit style living as well as another one. Then there are two all boy dorms and one all girl dorm. The student center has the cafe, our mailboxes, bookstore, and another food area. Then the main classroom building are very close to each other the farthest one being just a couple blocks away from the main campus. Our dorms have free laundry, a main kitchen down on the main level and each level having a fridge and a microwave. Cost is pretty decent, living in a suit will cost more because of the personal bathroom in the suit.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: I think that as for intramurals students really take part in the activities for them. Our campus has sports like flag football, volleyball, co-ed volleyball, and basketball just as a few. They get not only participants but also a nice section to watch them.

For the campus athletic sports there are events that get a lot of attention and some that don't as much. Football and Basketball are probably the most widely attended. Although when it comes to playing our rival there probably isn't a seat left in the building.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I honestly think that the federal aid office at our campus does a great job. When we apply for a loan, get grants, and scholarships we go onto a website for our campus assigned to our name that we log into and we accept or decline them. After this they are put into our account and when it comes time to pay for the fees for the semester they pull it out and then it shows how much we have left. When a student has too much financial aid they can pick up their check for the amount or the check gets sent out to them. While they may have some slow times where things get behind or that questions from students arise, they do a great job in handling themselves in a respectful way.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: While the strictness may be very good in the classroom and making attendance mandatory for grades usually, life in the dorms is pretty typical. They try to keep quiet hour from 10 pm to 10 am, but that usually doesn't work. If noise levels get too loud then the resident assistance (RAs) do take a stand and go to the room to give a warning and then on. Even that though sometimes doesn't work.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Being in North Dakota has its perk and its downfalls. During the fall and the spring the weather is very nice just to go outside in a sweatshirt or even just a t-shirt. Some classrooms that are higher in floor levels do get a little warmer but that doesn't stop us (staff and students) from continuing our daily schedule. On the other hand there is winter which already proved itself this year. When having bad weather, like a blizzard or bad snow storm, usually classes get called off if it is bad enough. Usually then it is a game of catch up not only for the professor to teach the information but for the students to learn it and do the homework for it.

Academics: I believe for Elementary Education here in Valley City they have a great program. They get us in the classroom our sophomore year to really see what it is like to be in a room, to be with teachers and staff, and to be with the students in the age level we want to teach (its not a random grade level assigned to us). We have method courses where we learn ideas of how to teach that specific topic and then we actually get to make lesson plans to teach our peers to get an idea of what it is like to come up with an activity or subject to teach. The staff here on campus is so helpful. As a student we can send emails to our professors and get an answer back with the same day or by the next. They are willing to set time aside to help us out with our questions and be there for help if we need it.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: You hear a lot more about it then actually seeing it go on. A lot of the parties or events per say take part off campus so that way students don't get in as much trouble. Our campus is drug and alcohol free which is also why they usually occur off campus. Other than this though you hear about being missing classes because they are hung over so as students on a small campus we know when someone was drinking the night before and come to learn who drinks more heavily and who doesn't

3 College Freshman

Weather: Its freezing but the snow is really pretty

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: It is the same and it is mostly fast food.

College Sophomore

Greek Life: I haven't tried to join the sorority on campus, but what I have from the girls that have joined is that getting in can is the hardest thing about it. Even the good girls had a hard time with it from what I have heard.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: We seriously need more parking on our campus, or to at least open up street parking. There are never any spots and as soon as you leave your spot, someone just pulled in to take it and you now have to go try to find a new one, and good luck with that.

College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I've never really been in the off-campus places around here. Everyone that I have talked to hasn't really said anything great about living off campus other than you don't have to deal with the dorm population.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Last year, I absolutely hated going here, this year, I don't mind it quite as much. Last year I had a roommate that went to bed early and I couldn't sleep and then I had someone threaten to kill me in my own room. This year I got a single room and haven't had any problems with anything or anyone.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: It's alright, it doesn't really seem to get a long with my stomach that great, so I try to avoid eating in the dining center.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: I think it's great that my school provides us laptops instead of making us get our own. As for campus life, I feel like there isn't really much out there for everyone to do and not everyone feels like they are invited to go to these events that do happen on campus.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The guys are either jock-like or nerdy, there isn't much for an in between and the girls are pretty much preppy and stuck-up. They all like to party most of the time.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: Providing laptops is so convenient.
