3 College Freshman

Majors: I like it but it gets a little boring.

4 College Freshman

Majors: I didn't have very many challenges. It was pretty simple once they got you started, they take care of almost everything.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I don't attend campus, but Urbana is small.

College Freshman

Drug Safety: I don't got to campus for anything.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: They aren't very helpful with scholarships.

Local Atmosphere: no activities to do off campus

Scholarships: no problems at all, they were very helpful

Diversity: The school has international students every year, especially from China. It is great having the diversity of other ethnic groups represented, but it is still difficult to have much intermingling between them and Americans. As an older, off-campus student I do not know of the students political beliefs or religion. I do know there are a few homosexual couples on campus.

Majors: The work load for accounting and business is heavy at times and at others it does not seem to cover enough. There is encouragement for internships and the career center adviser is a great help. Most of the professors care about if you are understanding the material more than getting a good grade. The facility and staff in the Business College are friendly and helpful outside the classroom also.

Local Atmosphere: It is a small town atmosphere and most people are friendly and helpful. The city puts on annual affairs around holidays during the year. There are historic buildings that are being worked on to save. There is the county fairgrounds at the edge of town and community involvement is big. Shopping is limited, but downtown has a lot of locally owned businesses.

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: I do not live on campus and therefore do not have an adequate view on the security. When I am there I do see the supervisor in different locations at different times. There is a 24-hr phone number that can be called.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: For a small town, surprisingly there is a variety from high-end to the fast-food drive-thru. The campus is not too far from a couple of larger cities for more of a variety.

3 College Senior

Campus Dining: I do not eat in the main dining cafeteria but at a grill in the student center. There is an adequate choice of items, but few non-fried items to choose from. The staff is very friendly and helpful and with a pre-paid, set amount of money on your student ID, you receive a discount on food .

4 College Senior

Facilities: Urbana does well with coordinating with the community with events for young, school-age children and adults. The campus buildings are comprised of old buildings and new with its 153 year-old history. They have museum about Johnny Appleseed on campus, as he was one of the founders and it provides programs for the community. The school has an active theatrical arts program which put on plays a couple times of year.

4 College Senior

Guys & Girls: Looking at it from a "mother's view," most of the guys and girls dress well and age appropriate. I would say that the majority are attractive, and are involved in lots of campus activities. There also appears to be small number who have developed close relationships and are dating.

3 College Senior

Academics: Some of the business courses need to be expanded so that all material is covered. Registration process is easy after you have been a student. Sometime the student adviser does not see the whole picture so a student may not know about all required subjects in the order that need to be taken. Study areas are adequate but there could be more.

4 College Senior

Overall Experience: I love the small size of the school/campus. Being able to interact with other classmates and the professors are my top picks. Sometimes I think I would choose a slightly larger college to have access to a larger quantity of resources.

3 College Senior

Athletics: As an older, traditional student I am not involved, but most students seem to like being a part of the sports available.

4 College Senior

Computers: School upgraded last year and is much better to use. Printing available in several areas and is quick and easy. Wireless works the majority of the time.

3 College Senior

Parking: One building for classrooms is too small for the number of students per classroom. It is also near the library which takes away from parking for both.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: Our student center is the place you will find most of the students when they are not in classes or in the library. Our student center offers a fully equipped work-out room, billiards, and a eatery. There are plenty of tables to eat, study or hang-out. the student center has many t.v.s and comfortable chairs you can sit in to watch. Downstairs is the school store where you can purchase, books and UU items. Our library is awesome. There is a designated quiet area for students to study in comfort with couches, lounges, and tables. The other side has computer and books. All our building well most of them have been updated. We have laundry rooms available in all dorm buildings as well as vending machines.

Off-Campus Housing: There is housing off-campus. Usually they are multi-family residences so rent is usually affordable. Landlords in the area are very understanding of your circumstance but do want paid. Most are older, victorian style homes and either have driveways or garages and if not on-street parking is readily available.

5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: We do have a campus nurse on-campus if you need anything, or aren't feeling well she is there. Her office is easy to find if needed as are all the offices. I feel very safe on campus Urbana in general has a low crime rate. I have never known of any fights or threats on campus and if there was one campus security took care of it before it could esculate.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: The curriculum is challenging yet understandable because the depth the professors go into when explaining. We have our gateways as education majors and there are 3 gateways you must go through to obtain your degree on top of your regular studies, gateways are items such as FBI checks, stafford tests, education applications, letters of recommendations and such.

Most students have a great time at Urbana University and consider the people and professors here a part of their extended families. You might hear some people say "This place sucks!" every day, but they probably only feel that way because they're not active in anything. If you get involved in clubs and other organizations on campus, you'll never be bored. You get out of it what you put into it, and that's true anywhere. Whine all you want about how there's nothing to do, but until you get out of your room or your select clique of friends and make an effort, you won't be having any fun.

At larger state schools, you could find yourself feeling like more of a number instead of a person as you sit in giant lectures, whereas at UU, your largest class will probably have about 25 people. You might even end up in a class with fewer than 10 students! The people and the professors really want you to succeed, and they care about you, and that's what helps to set Urbana apart from a lot of other universities and makes it a great choice.
