4 College Freshman

Transportation: The bus system is usually great, but the buses get way too crowded in the cold winter. It's not safe to walk to class in some of these sub zero temperatures, but if the buses are too full there's no safe way to get to class.

4 College Senior

Transportation: You can get anywhere you need to go on a bus. The cost of a bus pass is worked into tuition so if you don't use it you're wasting your own money.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: There are many opportunities for ride share programs. Airport located very near campus.

5 College Freshman

Transportation: The bus is extremely helpful especially in the winter when its freezing cold

3 College Junior

Transportation: The fact that students get a free bus pass is great, but taxis are always too busy when students need them.

Students feel pretty content with the various transportation options at UW. The shuttle bus is probably one of the more popular options. Students are able to take this up the ominous Bascom Hill, and around to the farthest academic building on campus. The bus runs about every fifteen minutes beginning at 7 a.m., and goes till 11 p.m.

In general, most places on campus or off are within a walking distance. However, UW and the city of Madison offer ways for students to go farther distances in shorter amounts of time. Therefore, public transportation is very accessible. As a student, you get a free bus pass that is good through the semester. As long as you can read a bus schedule, you are good to go. Lots of people use the busses to get to campus, go to the mall, or catch a movie. There is also a free bus that circles the campus to take students to academic buildings that are a little farther away. Madison also has an abundance of cabs that are more than willing to drive you anywhere. Of course, they are more expensive than the buses, but when you have bags of groceries, it's worth it. Madison also offers ways to get out of the city or state. The airport is only a few miles from campus, as is the Greyhound bus station. Travel agents are also available to help students plan getaways. Bottom line is that wherever you may need to go, there will be some means of getting you there.
