4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: There are lots of great guys out there that just need to be found! The boys either dress athletically or preppy. There isn't really an in-between. A lot of the greek guys are very very attractive, but you can find a gem in the regulars too! It's super easy to find guys at parties, classes, the dining hall, state st., etc... don't worry!

Students agree that the student body is very eye pleasing, literally. While there is a little more commentary about the girls, they do not discount the attractiveness of the male population. Looks aside, students do find most people to be accepting and friendly in nature. This "Midwestern mentality" makes it easy for new students or visors to feel comfortable at UW.

UW brings a wide range of people, and with that comes a wide range of personalities. It's not really fair to typify the guys into one group and the girls into another. Overall, there are a lot of friendly people. Whether you're in class, at work, or at a party, it is very easy to find someone to chat with, and more so to feel comfortable in your surroundings. That is the key-to find the environment you're into. On the flip side, you will find those that you clash with. Class-wise, this is great because it creates dialogue and debate, and hopefully both sides will leave the conversation with a better understanding of each other. Socially, this can be a problem, but only if you let it. Know whom you can and cannot tolerate outside of the classroom, and choose your social events accordingly.

Social Scene
In general, students at UW are very outgoing. If you are at a house party or Greek social, you are sure to find someone to talk with. The bars are the same way, because students here like to party, and with that comes major socialization. UW students will find almost any reason to throw a party or gathering. For those attending the festivities, it means tons of opportunities to meet new and interesting people.
Hookups or Relationships?
With a campus the size of an average Midwestern city, there isn't one standard of living when it comes to the opposite sex. Therefore, it is hard to categorize UW as a strictly one-night fling or lasting-love type of school. One common factor, however, is the level of maturity that is associated with such interactions. It seems that those choosing to engage in short-lived romances are pretty levelheaded about it, and understand what's expected and what's not. Similarly, those in serious relationships are relaxed and not too overbearing. Having stated that, there are some stereotypes associated with certain groups of people. The Greek System, for example, is believed to be filled with an endless supply of hormones and little emotional attachment. Also, certain dorms are noted as being more promising to those looking for a quick fix. It is really up to the individual to make their coed experience at Madison what they want it to be.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
In general, the dorms and classrooms are the best places to meet members of the opposite sex. First, they're guaranteed to be at these places. Second, the people you do happen to find have at least one thing in common-they either live in the same dorm or are taking the same class. More so, these commonalties are great neutral topics to start a discussion, which will hopefully lead to more. For those not living in dorms or tired of hitting on classmates, try the bars on the weekends. These establishments are filled with tons of people looking for the same thing you are.
Dress Code
UW itself does not enforce any type of dress code per se. Obviously students are expected to come dressed to class, and decently at that. What one wears really depends on mood and occasion. For 8:50 a.m. lectures, you are sure to find a room filled with pajama pants and UW sweatshirts. If it's a Friday or Saturday night on State St.reet, though, girls and guys will be in their party wear. For the girls, it's usually tight black pants or jeans and figure-fitting tops. For the guys, it's clean jeans, a buttoned down shirt, or a soft sweater. Any other time of the day, it is really up to you to choose your apparel and style.
