Guys & Girls: Guys and Gals – They guys at UW are either frat boy's, bro's, dorks, or athletes. Most are pretty decent looking, and some are gorgeous. The girls are very attractive and very nice depending on which social group you are in. Some of the girls in Greek life are stuck up and rude, but for the most part the girls are nice.

Academics: The Program – The Communication Arts program really seems to be taking off at the University. All of the professors and teacher's assistants I have had thus far really want the students to do well, and try to get us thinking out of the box. The workload that they assign us is fair, and they are definitely not going to give us assignments that will hurt our grade They seem to have a few good connections in the entertainment industry; they definitely could be better advertised but they are there.

Weather: Could be worse, but the winters here suck. People get around and thanks to a great transportation system, it's east to get around warm for free.

5 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Party Town – There is a party every night of the week anywhere in Madison. This makes skipping nights to study or do something else ok. You never really feel like you're missing out because it's always going on.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: All professors are very knowledgeable and professional during lecture. Even in large lectures, they are mostly all extremely approachable during office hours

Nightlife: Party Hardy – If you're 21 or over (or if you've got a fake that works its magic), the bar scene is definitely one of the hottest and most energetic. On a similar note, you've got your standard house parties and frat parties. But regardless of where you're going and with whom, the objective is often the same - party hardy and "get it in", to borrow a phrase from "Jersey Shore"'s very own, Snookie. If you're not into all of that, Madison has its fair share of more low-key activities, like outdoor (and indoor) shows, free movie nights, food and drink at the Union, etc. At the end of the day, everything is what you make it.

Off-Campus Dining: Affordable, Accessible, Delectable Cuisine – The quality of off-campus dining is generally something relative. Having grown up in the heart of Chicago, I've eaten at restaurants and tried foods that sometimes seem unrivaled, which makes me picky about the places at which I choose to dine. Overall, though, Madison offers a diverse selection of eateries, from the more elegant locations to your standard greasy spoon. Numerous cultures are represented, from Greek to African to Lebanese, and the cost is, for the most part, affordable. There's something for everyone, I'm sure, but the best way to get your money's worth is to step outside your comfort zone and do some exploring to find something that truly satisfies your appetite.

Overall Experience: The athletic events, especially the football and basketball games, make UW-Madison fun.

4 College Senior

Transportation: Private parking is somewhat difficult to find and very expensive. Bus routes are extensive and included in tuition. Plenty of taxi cabs also available.

4 College Senior

Academics: Well Balanced – This school has a lot of different majors and is strong in most of them.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: UW Experience – My experience at the UW-Madison has been pretty good so far. As it is a large school, finding a small community to connect with has been one of my best decisions. Although the school has some negatives, the education is great.

Diversity: The University of Wisconsin has had a long struggle with diversity. The campus has an extreme lack of racial and ethnic diversity within the student body. Although there is a decent sized minority population, the minority and majority students are extremely segregated. Minority students are often forced to deal with ignorant remarks from white students on campus and there have been multiple incidents of hate speech, ignorant behavior, and physical incidents.

Academics: International Studies Major – I have loved being an International Studies major at the University of Wisconsin--Madison. It is one of the largest majors on campus but provides a really small program feel. The program provides a multitude of course options covering various departments and subjects. I have really enjoyed all the courses I have taken so far for my major. The department's counselors are extremely helpful and despite working with many students, always remember your name and your concerns. They always make themselves available for walk-ins and appointments are very easy to make. They also host many events throughout the year for students to learn more about the major and the opportunities that the major can provide after graduation. Overall, it is a great major and I really enjoy it.

Parking: There is no long term parking offered through the University. This results in the only parking being provided through private companies or home owners. It is expensive and rarely conveniently located.

5 College Junior

Computers: Fast and Readily Available – I have never had any problems with the networking on campus. Every building I have been into has had wireless available. The networks are also very secure and are only available to students and faculty with a valid ID. Computer labs are located in numerous buildings and most are available 24/7.

Academics: Challenging, but Rewarding – The University of Wisconsin-Madison has an exceptional list of distinguished faculty. The courses are difficult, but they're worth the effort. Earning a degree from this establishment sets you apart from the crowd.

Greek Life: Greeks Suck – I never party, but the Greek people are always drunk and scare me when I have to go out at night to go to the library or get food. We seriously need to bring Prohibition back.

Nightlife: The Drunks Are Gross – I hate parties and partying. The people who participate in it are disgusting and irresponsible. One girl on my floor smoked weed and drank excessively, and one morning I woke up to find vomit all over the bathroom. That was one of the grossest things I have ever seen.

Campus Dining: Residential Dining Halls – Cheap food, but it tastes awful. The food is all greasy and when they attempt to make ethnic food, it is bland and does not resemble what it is supposed to taste like.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: School Strictness – I would say the strictness is probably low if anything. However, there usually isn't much trouble at our school.

1 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Dining Options – There are a few places to eat. Most are chain restaurants, and the rest are either taverns or "mom and pop" joints. The food is usually good, but the variety is limited.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: The Farther the Cheaper – The closer to campus the more expensive an appartment will inevitably be. But if you are willing to drive or better yet take use the free bus provided by UW you can find some cheap appartments that are in good neighborhoods.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: Libraries Are Amazing – The Libraries at the UW provide you with so many different options, from study environement to resources provided you will find what you need. The south student Union is almost too amazing. Just finished this 94.8 million dollar structure has a state of the art movie theatre that shows free movies, at least 3 fire places, a climbing wall and a bowling alley. I hope to take full advantage of it and so do thousands of other students.

3 College Student

Weather: Like a Box of Chocolates: Who Knows What You Are Gonna Get – Wisconsin weather can be very unpredictable. Especially in fall and spring. It will be nice for a few days and then bitterly cold the next few. Winters are long and snowy but students are able to turn them into fun, a.k.a. the Bascom Hill Snowball Fight!

3 College Student

Diversity: Wide Variety – While the majority of students are white there is a good-sized fraction of students hailing from Asia. Unfortunately the African American fraction of the student body is not nearly as prevalent.

Students put a lot of time and energy into their undergraduate education. Luckily for those at UW, many feel it has been a positive experience. The college atmosphere, expansive campus, and intense academics are only some of the reasons students enjoy UW so much. Students feel they are able to form relationships with other students, as well as their professors. Furthermore, UW leaves them prepared for their future.

An individual’s undergraduate experience is one of the most exciting times in their lives. It is often the first time they are away from parents and making serious decisions about their future. Therefore, it is essential to pick the best university to spend these busy years at. UW offers amazing academics, an inviting atmosphere, and energetic student body. Its location geographically makes it comfortable as well as gorgeous. The facilities are very accommodating, as is the transportation system. Though like any school, there are things that can be improved upon or changed. Parking remains a prevalent issue, for instance. Fortunately, though, issues such as diversity and improvements to the quality of the dorm food are being addressed. Students generally leave the school feeling satisfied and prepared for what’s to come. Wherever you decide to spend your undergraduate years, definitely consider the University of Wisconsin as a practical, exciting, and fulfilling option.
