Transportation options have gotten better in recent years. In 2011, the University partnered with Dunn County Transit Commission to provide students with a bus service for getting around campus. There are five different routes, and students ride for free with a Stout ID. However, in Menomonie, students can walk to most places and bike to all the others. If students don't own a car and they need to get to the store in the dead of winter, a recommended and tested method is to exploit friends. When living in the dorms, there are always people going up to Walmart or the grocery store that would be more than willing to give students a ride.
If students do bring a car, it will most likely stay parked in the parking lot, accumulating snow and being plowed in until the next time a student decides to dig it out. The campus is not big enough to drive between classes, and most of the services a student needs are an easy walk away anyway.
