Campus Strictness: The campus police are pretty strict when it comes to drug use on campus obviously, but using alcohol is more lenient.

Campus Strictness: Residence security is pretty tight now that we have younger kids coming into residences for first year. They aren't the hotbed of social carousing they used to be but still a great place to make some life-long friends... Just don't expect to make those friends over beer pong.
Foot Patrol and other such resources make campus a very safe place to be.

Campus Strictness: In the residences, they enforce a strictness for drinking in the hallways; it's probably to ensure that parties do not get too out of hand. However, drinking in the dorm rooms are acceptable. As for punishment, they are fairly given out. It's a little challenging having visitors because they make everyone sign-in and check IDs.

Campus Strictness: The police force around campus is very strict when it comes to abiding speed limits and road signs. There are always police waiting on campus corners and by stop signs to make sure these laws are enforced. They try to be as nice as possible, but they have no leniency for arrogance--especially after the first attempt. However, there are of course the police that give out unnecessary tickets from time to come.

Campus Strictness: My general impression of Western is that it's fairly strict with most its policies, but also generally pretty fair. I think that, overall, Western is generally strict when students' safety is concerned.

UWO is a reputable school with policies that need to be upheld, but it is not strict by any means. Since the legal drinking age is 19, underage drinking is often given the blind eye. In residences, the policy is essentially, "If I don't see it, I don't know it's there," and dorm managers generally just care about student safety. The same goes with police—as long as everyone's safe, that's all that matters. Students drunkenly stumble from campus bars and dorm parties, and as long as they aren't disrupting anyone, they won't be bothered by the cops.

Attendance solely depends on your program and course. Some professors couldn't care less if you went to class or not, but those courses generally hold less learning benefits for the students. The professors who care about your attendance, contribution to discussion, and enthusiasm for the course actually enlighten your learning experience entirely. Even though it's a drag to have high school-type rules in a college course, you will gain the most from those courses, and undoubtedly do better on the final—if you attend class, that is!
