Drug Safety: Drinking Is Greater Than Drugs – Drinking is far more popular than drugs. UVA doesn't have a very large drug-using population, but more than 50% of UVA students drink. There is no peer pressure, and people are free to drink or not drink at their own will. The policies on drinking are pretty lenient as long as you're not putting yourself or others in any kind of danger.

Greek Life: The Greeks students are just a normal part of life on grounds. They host open parties every weekend are usually nice to let people in. Everyone attends these parties on weekends and they also do a fair amount of community service work that sometimes gets the general student population involved.

Facilities: Aquatic and Fitness Center – This place is great for exercising or taking active classes. the two floors are filled with all typed of gym equipment and there's a huge basketball court that is always occupied. The pool is enormous and there's also a huge hot tub for some fun and leisure. The multipurpose rooms are very useful for practicing activities with various athletic and dance clubs.

Overall Experience: As a prospective UVA student, I have become familiar with its ammenities, the people and the gorgeous weather. This is my ideal school because not only is the atmosphere just right, but I feel it compliments my individuality and warm and enthusiastic personality. UVA is the perfect fit for me.

Weather: Not only does UVA have a great campus, but the weather is amazing! It fluctuates with seasons, which I fancy since I am from Maryland, where the weather is constantly changing, but all-around, the temperature is just right and perfect to read in study groups on the grass or take a nice brisk around campus.

Health & Safety: The University of Viginia has a beautiful campus that encompasses amiable students and their even more warm and attractive personalities. The area is very clean and safe, without being too guarded for a great night-life. Its attractions are what make the environment inviting and the atmosphere in general is amazing beyond belief. Also, the food is not only nutritional, but tasty!

Facilities: U.Va. has so many opportunities. There is a very rich sense of community and culture at the University. We have our own lingo. The Lawn and the Rotunda are epic and essential parts to making U.Va. so spectacular. Streaking and steamtunneling are always fun, especially with friends--but make sure you do it safely and don;t get caught. The academics are difficult. No matter what you study, there are always going to be difficult professors, assignments, or workloads. Overall, everything is worth it and makes you a better you.

Transportation: There Are So Many Buses, but You'll Get the Hang of It – There are so many buses and routes. The main one first years need to know is Northline, and you'll be fine. Also, you have to know which side of the street goes to which destinations. The Trolley is free and can get you Downtown or to Fashion Square Mall. After a month you'll master the bus routes.

Campus Dining: The Food Can DEFINITELY Be Better – The food is not the best part of U.Va. The dining halls are a hit or miss. One day the food could be the bomb-dot-com, and the rest of the week will be a bust. Th variety isn't that high, but a lot of vegetarian options. Plus Dollars go by quickly; save them or get a meal plan that suits you. The Castle is always delicious for late night or anytime meals. West Range Cafe is great for lunch and delicious smoothies.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: If You Choose, You Can't Lose – There are so many nice places to eat at The Corner. Bodo's Bagels is amazing and cheap. There are also nicer end restaurants and fun hangout spots. Mellow Mushroom has Trivia Night every Wednesday, and it's always a blast.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Very Diverse Atmosphere – No matter what your personality is or what suits your fancy, you can definitely fins something to do. There is always a party for those who want to get down, and there are other groups, organizations, and other students like you who just want a jolly good ol' time.

2 College Freshman

Parking: You cannot drive your first year – You cannot drive your first-year. There are very limited spaces and there is no need since walking to class is very quick and convenient. The buses are good too.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Not That Strict – Police don't care about what you are doing, they just care that you are safe. You are safe to go to the police for any help you need.

5 College Freshman

Nightlife: Parties Are Fun – Good music and accessibility to drinks. Don't go to frat parties, they are not worth it. Many non-fraternal organizations have parties that are way more fun. Asians are really nice with the alcohol :)

4 College Junior

Facilities: The Perfect Blend of Size and Intimacy – UVA is excellent in regards to the fact that there are just enough people to where you don't know everyone but you do at the same time. There are always ways to meet new people, yet you see almost everyone you know on a daily basis. Central Grounds (our lingo for campus) is so intimate that you feel like everyone is bundled into the UVA family together. It's awesome!

3 College Junior

Athletics: Lesser Followed Varsity Sports Are Amazing – UVA often gets a bad rap from the general American public because its football and basketball teams are "less than perfect." However, these people don't even think to acknowledge the fact that we have the number one soccer (NCAA 2009 Champions plus the world's favorite sport) team in the country and the number one baseball team in the country, along with a myriad of other highly ranked sports. Our IM and Club sports are also top notch. Once people stop making football and basketball out to be everything they'll realize that turning down UVA on the basis of those sports would be crazy because we have ton to offer!

Greek Life: Rugby Road! There is an impressive amount of greek life here, Rush week practically takes over the campus, parties go from thursday to sunday pretty much guaranteed at Rugby.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Search Hard to Find Good Places – There are good places but they are hard to find, yet places that are far away offer free shuttles to campus, a major plus because parking is a nightmare, not to mention expensive.

College Sophomore

Nightlife: Not Much Going on – I don't go to the bars.

3 College Freshman

Parking: None During Games – well it`s hard to get a parking lot when there is football game going on; otherwise it is perfectly fine.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Old Dorm Rocks – Old Dorm is the best place for first-year students because it`s close to bus stops, student restaurant, gym, and classes (especially for Engineering student)! Do not be fool by its name; old dorm does not mean "lame."

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Get Away from the Campus for Great Local Food. There are some definite hot spots to hit at the Corner District, Little John's is a late-night favorite, getting away from Grounds will introduce you to a whole lot of cuisine. The Downtown Mall area has great restaurants in every price range, one of my favorite local spots is The Blue Moon Diner, and live music is easily located. Also, get a bagel at Bodo's. It's the number one thing people miss when they leave the area.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: UVA has a reputation as a white, preppy school where all social activity is overshadowed by the Greek scene. That's not true for the most part. It's a big school and there is great variety in the student body. As a transfer student, I was pleasantly surprised at just how motivated my peers are. No matter what your major is, you'll find that students here are ambitious and incredibly focused on making changes in the world. I've learned so much by way of my peers and the caliber of their minds. I wouldn't want to go to any other school. At UVA you work hard and end up with amazing experiences.

Health & Safety: Relatively Safe When School Is in Session – When classes are in session and there are students all over, Charlottesville is a very safe city. Crime only happens during the breaks and late at night if you're away from the Campus. Honestly, the most dangerous situation you can come across is at frat parties where sexual crimes do happen. Police presence is barely noticeable off-Grounds.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: The gyms here are pretty state-of-the art and very popular, but its pretty disappointing that you have to pay membership fees as a student. One of the best parts about this school is the system of libraries. There are a bunch and they provide a good variety of study environments. The Clemons Library is open 24 hrs a day four days out of the week and students make good use of it.

Most students talk about the wonderful experiences and positive feelings they associate with UVA. The University has some of the most devoted alumni in the country. Of course, there are those who wished they had gone somewhere else and those who were turned off by things such as the lack of diversity, the prominence of Greek life, student naïvety, or the pretentiousness that is, in fact, present on campus. Those who really like UVA appreciate its traditions, the friendly and outgoing atmosphere, the beautiful setting, and the outstanding academic environment. Students definitely have their share of rough, sad, or aggravating moments at UVA, but when all is said and done, many claim that they couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.

There are so many different experiences here—putting together an unorganized, student-run play with remarkable self-motivated students, studying abroad, drinking wine and chatting with a favorite professor in his/her home, tutoring at a local school, or sunning out on the lawn with friends—that, in the end, are some of the many reasons why students are happy at UVA. If you come to UVA, be prepared to take the good with the bad. In my view, the positive aspects of the University outweigh the negatives, and the environment is as vibrant and intelligent as it was when Thomas Jefferson founded it well over a century ago.
