Academics: Health care is a great major with lots of interesting people to meet.

Majors: I love being in the Nursing program - i am so excited to begin my clinicals too.

Diversity: There is lots of diversity oat UVA and it seems to be a very accepting place to be.

Campus Housing: UVA has to be the most beautiful school in the country. Although the buildings tend to be old, the history inside them is rich and makes up for the disparity in years. The dorms are average or above average compared to most schools and the housing process is a breeze. For a state school, UVA is slightly higher than average, but there is of course financial aid available. The social atmosphere may stereo-typically be known as "snooty" but I have yet to meet a student who did not greet me with a smile or who was unwilling to strike up a conversation with a new or prospective student.

Overall Experience: UVA is unique in that students are encouraged to spend time in activities outside of the classroom. Libraries are closed at night on the weekends to encourage students to leave these activities to the week. On Saturdays students are found all over grounds participating in everything the school has to offer. This balance of work and fun is why I chose my school and why I would choose it all over again.

Academics: At this point, I have not declared a major. However, I am working towards the requirements of a biology major with pre-medical requirements fulfilled. The program thus far has been more rigorous than I imagined but I fully appreciate the challenge to learn and develop my academic skills. There are research and internship opportunities for pretty much anyone who truly wants one.

Academics: The academics at UVA are top of the line. You can't get much better than this. For instance, I was struggling in my general chemistry class and went to see the professor. He is responsible for over 1200 chemistry students and chose to take an hour of his day to go over a test with me, encouraged me to continue my chemistry studies, and then made sure to congratulate me when my next test grade soared.

Facilities: There are student activities fairs that promote the different clubs and activities occurring on grounds. I joined a few and find that it has given me a network of supportive friends to turn to as well as an outlet for discovering what college is all about, making connections while learning.

Facilities: University of Virginia is a wonderful school with professors and staff members that genuinely care about your academic progression and success. My professors recognize me, even in large lecture classes. I have friends in every class, yet all of us are driven and focused on the material presented. UVA has endless programs become a part of. If the one you want is unavailable, make your own! The dorms are either new and beautiful or old and historic, two of my favorite things! It has a small school feel in a big school setting.

Academics: The Pre-med track is difficult. However, this is beneficial because becoming a doctor is a big deal and we want dedicated people to go through with this dream.

Campus Strictness: The strictness on campus is perfect. The campus is strict on underage drinking which is great but not as strict on stuff that does not matter as much.

Diversity: I have met people with so many different backgrounds. Not every person is the same at all. This college is very diverse.

Weather: The weather here is very nice. It can be cold; however, in the spring it is very nice.

5 College Freshman

Nightlife: I am not old enough to attend a bar. I have never been to a club.

Campus Housing: My dorm is the best. It is extremely close to all of my classes and is cleaned regularly. Also, everyone is extremely kind.

5 College Freshman

Parking: The cost is reasonable, but I do not use it because freshman are not allowed cars.

5 College Freshman

Computers: I have never been to a computer lab on campus. I always use my own computer.

Overall Experience: I love my school! It was the best decision I have ever made. It is large and has a lot of things to participate in; however, it is also small enough to not have to walk a long distance to arrive at your destination.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: UVA was very kind when helping me apply for financial aid.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I am currently not living off-campus, but many people have great things to say about it.

5 College Freshman

Transportation: The cost of riding a bus is non-existent even for people who do not attend UVA.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are many options. I have been to Taco Bell, Outback Steakhouse, and other restaurants that were new to me.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I do not qualify for financial aid unfortunately.

Most students talk about the wonderful experiences and positive feelings they associate with UVA. The University has some of the most devoted alumni in the country. Of course, there are those who wished they had gone somewhere else and those who were turned off by things such as the lack of diversity, the prominence of Greek life, student naïvety, or the pretentiousness that is, in fact, present on campus. Those who really like UVA appreciate its traditions, the friendly and outgoing atmosphere, the beautiful setting, and the outstanding academic environment. Students definitely have their share of rough, sad, or aggravating moments at UVA, but when all is said and done, many claim that they couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.

There are so many different experiences here—putting together an unorganized, student-run play with remarkable self-motivated students, studying abroad, drinking wine and chatting with a favorite professor in his/her home, tutoring at a local school, or sunning out on the lawn with friends—that, in the end, are some of the many reasons why students are happy at UVA. If you come to UVA, be prepared to take the good with the bad. In my view, the positive aspects of the University outweigh the negatives, and the environment is as vibrant and intelligent as it was when Thomas Jefferson founded it well over a century ago.
