Off-Campus Housing: I just signed a lease for next year and was quite pleased with both the means and the ends!

Academics: The academics here are stellar. Brilliant, engaging, helpful professors are the norm. Though I don't have experience with faculty in every department, my first hand combined with what I've heard from friends points towards high quality across the board. Research is generally quite accessible to undergraduates who put in initiative towards getting involved. As an Environmental Science and Economics double major my work load SHOULD be pretty big, but it isn't at all! I don't have to spend excessive time on my school work and so have plenty of time to play games with friends, relax and get involved in clubs (CIOs). Love, love, love.

Diversity: Diversity at the University is reaching towards being average. Although people like to self segregate without even realizing it.

Campus Strictness: The University if very lenient in a lot of aspects in a way that I feel as though I am pretty much on my own. I barely ever have a authority figure in my presence making sure rules are regulated. They give us a lot of freedom because we pledge under the honor code to follow it.

Computers: The internet connection has barely ever feeled with me. And i am able to use the Wi-Fi i believe everywhere on campus.

Campus Housing: The University has just built alot of new dorms which are amazing inside. However, since its a lottery on which dorm you will get as a First Year you aren't guaranteed living in these new dorms which have absolutely everything a student will need. If you don't get these dorms there is Gooch/Dillard and old dorms which are just average. The cost for all first year dorms are mostly these same with like a $100 difference if you live in new dorms I believe. Also, old dorms are extremely close to classes with less that a five minute walk. Also, Gooch/Dillard are singles. All the first years dorms have a social aspect to it just in some places like Gooch/Dillard yo actually have to make an effort to get to know people because you have your own space and room.

Off-Campus Housing: I have never lived off grounds or was looking to live off grounds so I have no idea what ros and cons are faced during that process of looking for off grounds housing.

Off-Campus Dining: I haven't really tried much since I have a meal plan which allows me not to really have to look outside for off campus food.

Transportation: We have the UTS which is the university bus system which comes every 10 minutes during school days so very useful. Also, there is taxis and SafeRide which one can call and use however SafeRide is at night and very convenient instead of walking home at night its gets you back to your dorm safely.

Computers: Computers are very accessable at UVA.

Diversity: There is lots of diversity oat UVA and it seems to be a very accepting place to be.

Campus Housing: UVA has to be the most beautiful school in the country. Although the buildings tend to be old, the history inside them is rich and makes up for the disparity in years. The dorms are average or above average compared to most schools and the housing process is a breeze. For a state school, UVA is slightly higher than average, but there is of course financial aid available. The social atmosphere may stereo-typically be known as "snooty" but I have yet to meet a student who did not greet me with a smile or who was unwilling to strike up a conversation with a new or prospective student.

Overall Experience: UVA is unique in that students are encouraged to spend time in activities outside of the classroom. Libraries are closed at night on the weekends to encourage students to leave these activities to the week. On Saturdays students are found all over grounds participating in everything the school has to offer. This balance of work and fun is why I chose my school and why I would choose it all over again.

Academics: At this point, I have not declared a major. However, I am working towards the requirements of a biology major with pre-medical requirements fulfilled. The program thus far has been more rigorous than I imagined but I fully appreciate the challenge to learn and develop my academic skills. There are research and internship opportunities for pretty much anyone who truly wants one.

Academics: The academics at UVA are top of the line. You can't get much better than this. For instance, I was struggling in my general chemistry class and went to see the professor. He is responsible for over 1200 chemistry students and chose to take an hour of his day to go over a test with me, encouraged me to continue my chemistry studies, and then made sure to congratulate me when my next test grade soared.

Facilities: There are student activities fairs that promote the different clubs and activities occurring on grounds. I joined a few and find that it has given me a network of supportive friends to turn to as well as an outlet for discovering what college is all about, making connections while learning.

Facilities: University of Virginia is a wonderful school with professors and staff members that genuinely care about your academic progression and success. My professors recognize me, even in large lecture classes. I have friends in every class, yet all of us are driven and focused on the material presented. UVA has endless programs become a part of. If the one you want is unavailable, make your own! The dorms are either new and beautiful or old and historic, two of my favorite things! It has a small school feel in a big school setting.

Academics: The Pre-med track is difficult. However, this is beneficial because becoming a doctor is a big deal and we want dedicated people to go through with this dream.

Most students talk about the wonderful experiences and positive feelings they associate with UVA. The University has some of the most devoted alumni in the country. Of course, there are those who wished they had gone somewhere else and those who were turned off by things such as the lack of diversity, the prominence of Greek life, student naïvety, or the pretentiousness that is, in fact, present on campus. Those who really like UVA appreciate its traditions, the friendly and outgoing atmosphere, the beautiful setting, and the outstanding academic environment. Students definitely have their share of rough, sad, or aggravating moments at UVA, but when all is said and done, many claim that they couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.

There are so many different experiences here—putting together an unorganized, student-run play with remarkable self-motivated students, studying abroad, drinking wine and chatting with a favorite professor in his/her home, tutoring at a local school, or sunning out on the lawn with friends—that, in the end, are some of the many reasons why students are happy at UVA. If you come to UVA, be prepared to take the good with the bad. In my view, the positive aspects of the University outweigh the negatives, and the environment is as vibrant and intelligent as it was when Thomas Jefferson founded it well over a century ago.
