Many students feel relatively safe at the University of the Ozarks, but due to a strange Insane Clown Posse-affiliated gang called “The Juggalos” surrounding Clarksville, there have been a few incidents of this group disturbing campus. Crimes against students have been mostly petty theft and vandalism of property. Campus Security is not always around to catch the people responsible for the crime, but the local police are effective at looking into the situation and finding the perpetrators.
The main part of campus or "the mall” is by far the safest location for students to wander about at night. A few students have had some horrible encounters of being followed while walking on Spadra Trail. This trail is not the safest place to be in the middle of the night. For students to feel secure walking Spadra Trail, it would be best to always have a way to call someone or to bring a friend for extra comfort. The Campus Security team at the University is around and active, but they are usually only seen when they are called. The student health center is easily accessible and provides an outpatient clinic in the bottom of the Seay Student Center. Also, visits, over-the-counter medications, bandages, and other basic needs from this clinic are free to students, faculty, and staff. The nurse assists students in arranging appointments with local physicians, making "residence hall calls," or arranging transportation to the emergency room at Johnson Regional Medical Center. Health and safety are two key priorities at the University of the Ozarks.
