Campus Strictness: Strict Rules – UIW has a strict policy when it comes to underage drinking and illegal drugs. I feel this makes our campus safe. However, the fact that you can't have any beer/alcoholic drink memorabilia in your dorm is a little too strict. In order to graduate, you have to complete 40 volunteer hours. This is part of the UIW mission, and is not that difficult of a task to complete since there is at least one community service opportunity once a week.

Local Atmosphere: Awesome Atmosphere – UIW is located in San Antonio, but you don't feel like you're in San Antonio. The campus feels like a little community where you belong. San Antonio has great weather, but it can get over 100 degrees a lot during the summer. There are a few restaurants located within walking distance of UIW. San Antonio has many attractions, such as the River Walk and Alamo that are fun to enjoy.

Parking: The parking is reasonably fair regarding the student to parking space ratio. Of course the earlier the student arrives in the morning the better he or she will find a place to park. For the students parking far from class the campus has shuttles running through out the day for rides to parking garages.

Guys & Girls: Student Atmosphere – The student atmosphere is great. Every student is extremely helpful and more than willing to help no matter the problem. Student life is very vibrant and is always promoting school activities and campus entertainment.

Facilities: All campus facilities are well kept and are made easily accessible to all students. Gym is very accessible all hours of the day, olympic style pool in their Natatorium building as well as a Olympic style track for running

Diversity: Incarnate Word offers education to a number of students. They come from hometown, other cities, and even abroad. If anyone comes here, they will most likely meet someone with a different background than themselves.

San Antonio is known for it's museums like the McNay and San Antonio Museum of Art. The Riverwalk is home to friendly locals and humble resautants with an extraordinary history up and down the river. Around the corner there is always fun with local attractions like Six Flags and Sea World

Transportation: The Shuttles Are Good – Transportation around campus is good. There is a short wait if you miss one but it's usually not more than a few minutes until another shuttle comes by. The drivers are all very friendly.

Campus Dining: In My Experience, It Was Good – I didn't eat much on campus but what was available was good

Academics: Very Supportive and Interesting – The biology department is full of professors who love what they do and are very helpful. There is always support and if you are interested in biology, the workload isn't that bad because it's interesting and informative

Facilities: The Facilities are all really nice, it has some modern buildings and has some colonial style buildings. There are beautiful trees and flowers. All the buildings are really nice and reallly close together making it get to class easy and on time. The campus acitivities are awesome, there is always something going on. Its a fun campus and it gets very involved.

Academics: The academics at The University of the Incarnate Word are very diverse from Fashion Design to Nusing from Philosophy to Computer Graphics. At Incarnate Word, the teacher to student ratio is very good; we have more one to one teaching due to the small numbers of students in a class. We get to work closely with our teachers, if we have questions or need some extra help. The Fashion Program for me is really good, the supplies we need are expensive but I have learned a lot so far.

Facilities: The Professors Make This School Great – Again I can't stress enough how knowledgeable and helpful all professors I've had so far have been. The community college I was at had a few prize professors but the philosophy department at Incarnate Word is excellent. No complaints yet.

3 College Senior

Computers: There is few computers compared to the community college I was attending before but most of the time it is enough. Upgraded hardware would be good to see also. A better network is also needed.

Academics: Professors Are Very Into the Subject – I only know of a few Philosophy majors and generally everyone is happy with the professors. The professors are great, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and always willing to help. If they can't help with what you need they will refer you to somebody who can. I have never been turned down by a professor, staff is a different story though.

Overall Experience: Pretty Damn Close to Nirvana – Personally I love to travel, but the reason I chose the school was because it qualified for affordability and had the requirements I needed for my health care degree. I am getting through such a "prestigious and expensive" school through academic scholarships, and trying very hard and succeeding so far at not applying for loans. But my scholarship, along with household duties, and a part time job can only get me so far since I am not exactly 4.0 student; but the motivation is still running at its fullest. I would choose this school again because the environment was quant but it had a focal point for students and teachers to have a closer relationship with a class of 25 or so rather than a cult of 200 followers. My friends are always accessible because for some strange reason the schedules we have had for the past two semesters seems to work out with each other, and so on and so forth with their friends. Everything here is not nirvana, but to me, this is pretty damn close.

Campus Housing: Oh, How I Wish – Sadly I do not share with my fellow peers, the joy and hardships to live on your own in a learning environment. I have experianced a few nights studying in the dorms with those that can afford them, and I find it quite exhilirating. But I am trying as hard as I can to afford my University classes and books alone.

Academics: The Wealth of Happiness I Share Through My Experience With Ease – The most intriguing personalities that have come across my life are those from my professors at UIW, especially my psychology teacher. The professors are what defines curriculum and what inspires students to take it on; that is if you acquire the correct professor. It also affects the workload, or lack there of. I have been taught at my prep school how to sustain a lifestyle during college where I am not stressed or overwhelmed in any way on what challenges I put myself up against. I was excited about going to UIW in the beginning because I had found out that they had introduced new biology and nursing environments for those who have set health care into their four year curriculum. I can continue on, but unfortunately my time is limited to the amount of work I am putting myself through this summer to pay for UIW.

Campus Strictness: Watches Over You – Our police force could be a bit better than what it is now, as in better processing appeals for tickets and being more available. Some of the school policies couls use some updates, but for the most part they seem to be ok. Although if you do get in trouble for anything I feel sometimes the punishment is too severe for the violation. The good thing though is that they have somebody talk to you about it and that person tries to help you do better in the future, almost like a mentor.

Academics: Push to a Better Life – For my major a person needs to be very hard working and determined. It isn't something to be taken lightly and it can be easy for a person to reconsider this major because of the classes required to take before actually attending Nursing school. If someone truly wants to do this for their life then they should see how each challenging course is very much worth their time. Advisors are very helpful and eager to see their advisee succeed, they go through everything they need to know at each appointment made.

Diversity: Mainly Hispanic – Like any other college or university at UIW we have a variety of ethnic people. Although it is mainly hispanics that attend this university, most likely beacuse the location of the city is predominately hispanic. I think we are slowly expanding the ethnic pool at UIW.

Academics: Good but Could Be Better – Most professors are knowledgable about subject but have trouble keeping students interest during class

5 College Sophomore

Transportation: Free Shuttle Rides – the school offers free shuttle rides to every place in the school, and even to neighboring high schools.

The University of the Incarnate Word has so much to offer. From the academics and excellent professors to the life-long friendships, you will not look back and regret coming to UIW. Most of the students really enjoy their experience at UIW. The friendships formed here usually last through college and beyond. There are also more genuine friendships since UIW is a small school, and keeping in contact with fellow classmates is very easy because you see the same people almost daily. UIW is a very diverse school, so it is like a "small world." The memories formed at UIW are endless.

The education is top-of-the-line, as it thoroughly prepares each student to excel in his or her desired field of study. The smaller atmosphere allows for more personal attention for each student. The relationships between students and teachers is very strong, and professors know students by their names because of the low student-to-teacher ratio. Sure, you will hear complaints here and there, whether it be about residence life or the cafeteria food, but keep in mind that everyone has different tastes, and nothing is perfect. Overall, students are very satisfied with their education at UIW and all that it brings them not only while they are in school but after they graduate as well. Professors and advisers make sure that their students are more than prepared for their careers and for whatever life may bring in the future.
