Health & Safety: Damp moldy smelling dorms. Ants, broken ceiling tiles and leaky ceilings in the Fine Arts Building.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: The food is okay. It is mostly a lot of junk food and you get tired of it pretty fast.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I could have received a lot more financial aid. Make sure you keep all of your forms.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I've never felt unsafe. We have a safe and beautiful campus.

5 College Freshman

Computers: There are multiple computer labs on campus! All function extremely well and are overall great.

Diversity: There are so many races and religions at UIW and there is no discrimination. I've actually learned more about other people and their cultures than I would have expected.

Parking: The permit is average cost. You can get ticketed easily.

4 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Geek life on campus is very much into the community and volunteer services. They hold plate sales and other fundrasing events to help the community and campus life.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I am not aware of any drug scene. I guess this would depend on who you hangout with and what type of individual you are. Drinking seems to be most popular on campus.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The atmosphere are campus is positive and and lively. You can find student, facilty and staff willing to assist you with anything you may need. The layout of campus is easily accessible and well kept up.

Guys & Girls: There is a wide range of personality and looks at UIW. The great thing about this diversity is that everyone knows everyone and gets along. There are countless social opportunities to take part in and meet new people. The athletics are a big social part, but even to non-athletes participate and mingle with everyone. For the most part, everyone dresses at their comfort level and no one is ever judged for wearing anything.

4 College Senior

Academics: The academics offered at UIW are fantastic! They prepare you for the real life field and provide you with the knowledge needed for your future. Registration is very easy. Your advisor walks you through the process step by step and maps out the best route for you to take in order to graduate with your degree. The work load is fairly manageable. As long as you manage your time well and keep up with studies and class work, the work isn't so bad. Professors are willing to work with you, provide you with great resources and will meet you at your convenience if you just talk to them and set something up.

Drug Safety: Ironically, from what I've noticed at Incarnate Word, is that the biggest drug scene is within the athletes. Alcohol is a major factor is all the social gatherings, but drug use is at a bare minimum. Drugs are definitely offered to students at these social gatherings, but it is often turned down. Peer pressure is always going to be there, but it is nothing extreme or to the point of making someone uncomfortable. For the most part, if you say "No," it will be respected. Policy enforcement is effective as strong as it could be. Students/athletes are always going to drink and some will do drugs, its inevitable. However, the random drug testing and punishment when caught with these substances does seem effective and prevent some from putting themselves in such a position.

Academics: All the professors in this department have a ph degree and are willing to work with you and your crazy college schedule. They provide many effective hands on projects and assignments that prepare you for your future in this specific field. There are limitless resources and staff to help you through whatever it is you need and they do it with a smile. As graduation comes near, the professors and staff are willing to provide outstanding recommendations as well as help you find an internship and/or job.

5 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: The atmosphere is wonderful on campus and around the area. There are many sight attractions with friendly people and a welcoming attitude. The area also has many activities, events, and cultural attractions that are available to everyone.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: The computers that are available in the campus library are usually filled up around lunch time and throughout the day after that. Students usually have to end up waiting either in the lounge area or standing near a computer to wait for the next available one. Network reliability and speed are average. Usually when I would use a computer the speed happened to slow down and it took a longer time to access research or any web sites. A lot of students bring their own laptops and have no problem with the University wifi and use them everywhere on campus.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I personally do not live on campus but I have spoken with people who do live on campus. For the most part the dorms are livable but pricey. Most of the rooms are small but I never hear any rave reviews about the dorms.

5 College Sophomore

Transportation: Public transportation is very good. I have never had a bad experience when it comes to the Universities transportation systems and workers. Each worker and transportation vehicle has always been on time through my experiences and have always been convenient, friendly, and patient towards students.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The safety and security on campus are convenient but rarely do I see a few when I arrive to my classes in the morning and when I leave classes in the afternoon. I see a few here and there as I go on through my day but when I make my way through the parking lot I hardly see any security which leaves me a little uneasy at moments because I would like to feel that officers are in close proximity than feeling isolated. Better to be safe than sorry. I feel very safe when I'm on campus but I feel the University should take their parking lots into more consideration.

3 College Freshman

Facilities: My campus has a unique tradition called Light The Way , in which in November we have a ceremony on the football field and at the end of the ceremony we have a countdown, and our President Dr. Agnesse lights up the whole campus with christmas lights. It has to be the most beautiful scenory ever! Many people come by taking many pictures.

5 Recent Alumnus

Guys & Girls: I like the Incarnate word vibe, It is fun, I had the best experience with academic counselors, they did their best to help me out.

5 College Freshman

Computers: Being able to use the Internet all over campus really takes away the need for the computers in most cases. So it hasn't become an issue.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Off campus living is a hassle over here. Reason being is because its on broadway and most of the area is taken over by business and near by neighborhoods. Apartments are a tad bit pricey but it wouldn't hurt taking a look at what there is offered.

5 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: For the most part, everyone is extremely humble. I have not run into anyone full of themselves or selfish. There is an extremely diverse student body and as long as you don't come in disrespecting people you should have no problem getting around and getting to know new people.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: The library computers tend to fill up quickly, but there is also a media room below the library that always has some free ones. WiFi is provided is you bring your own laptop. You can also buy or rent laptops from the school. Printing cost 5 cents a page.

The University of the Incarnate Word has so much to offer. From the academics and excellent professors to the life-long friendships, you will not look back and regret coming to UIW. Most of the students really enjoy their experience at UIW. The friendships formed here usually last through college and beyond. There are also more genuine friendships since UIW is a small school, and keeping in contact with fellow classmates is very easy because you see the same people almost daily. UIW is a very diverse school, so it is like a "small world." The memories formed at UIW are endless.

The education is top-of-the-line, as it thoroughly prepares each student to excel in his or her desired field of study. The smaller atmosphere allows for more personal attention for each student. The relationships between students and teachers is very strong, and professors know students by their names because of the low student-to-teacher ratio. Sure, you will hear complaints here and there, whether it be about residence life or the cafeteria food, but keep in mind that everyone has different tastes, and nothing is perfect. Overall, students are very satisfied with their education at UIW and all that it brings them not only while they are in school but after they graduate as well. Professors and advisers make sure that their students are more than prepared for their careers and for whatever life may bring in the future.
