Computers: Incarnate word has computers everywhere! They have computer labs that hold maybe over 30 computers. It is very convenient when I don't have my laptop with me. Most people do use their own computers but it is still good to know you always have a back up.

Transportation: I am a commuter so it is very difficult to get around all of the traffic. It would be so much easier if I lived on campus, but I cannot afford it. They do have campus shuttles that run about every 15 minutes which is very helpful if I need to get to the other side of campus.

Academics: I'm a biology major and I've been very satisfied with the academics at Incarnate. I've been lucky to have such great professors that help you understand the material very well. They make time apart from class time to be able to help you one on one if you have any questions.

Off-Campus Dining: There are many common restaurants off-campus at Incarnate Word. There is a variety of options in which you crave. The most common one is jimmy john's or IHOP. Since there is college discounts it's where most students go. But along the street you can find many restaurants.

Academics: I've been satisfied with the education I have gained so far at Incarnate Word. I'm a biology major which is very popular so there are a lot of people trying to help you get all the classes you need. The other majors are also well known and common, advisors do everything they can to make you successful.

Drug Safety: The drug scene at Incarnate Word is rare. You really don't hear about things like this at all, it all depends in who you become friends with. Usually people are really nice and good people where you don't ever have to experience things like that. Alcohol is a little different since there is students of legal age that can buy alcohol but you are the only one who gets to decide whether to do it or not. There is no one to peer pressure you into anything.

Diversity: UIW has one of the most diverse campus I have visited. We have so many international and exchange student that come in every semester. We have sister schools in certain countries, but we have students from all over the world.

Facilities: The University of the Incarnate Word is over 125 years old and the facilities are maintained pretty well. New buildings and expansions are always happening.

Off-Campus Dining: No matter what campus you choose there are a wide variety of dining options.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: It is best to walk-in and keep on top of all deadlines yourself.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The housing options are continuously expanding and you can choose what works best for you.

Guys & Girls: UIW is diverse and has a wide range of people that are fun to get to know.

Parking: The parking on our campus sucks!!!!!! The university needs to expand immediately.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: I don't stay on campus so I can't really make a comment on this subject.

3 College Junior

Weather: It's Texas, so It's hot. The campus keeps the air conditioning on, but that still doesn't help when your outside. The University has no control over the weather so it's needless to complain about this matter.

4 College Junior

Campus Strictness: I think that a student strives to achieve an A should not be deduce to a negative mark on the grade that they strive to achieve. My school list anything lower than a 93 as an -A. So from 90 - 93 the student will receive this negative place on their grade and it will count against their GPA. On the other hand you cannot achieve an A+ no matter if you receive an 110%.

Campus Housing: Some are of good size, yet some are small and/or old.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Living on campus at Incarnate Word is pretty interesting. The freshman dorms in the heart of campus are older, so maintenance is frequent, but this also means there is a lot of history surrounding them. Also, because they are older, the cost of living is not as expensive as the newer dorms, but there is no shortage in social interaction between the residents. However, dorms do fill up quickly, especially the newer ones!

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Incarnate Word boasts an incredible variety of races, ethnic groups, and religion affiliations throughout campus. Because of the wide variety of the aforementioned tennants of diversity, there is no shortage of learning opportunities for students who have little to no experience of living outside of their culture. Do not be afraid to ask someone why they do things differently; as long as you are genuine, serious, and considerate about your inquiries, you will learn much about different cultures throughout campus!

Athletics: Athletics at University of the Incarnate Word are not as diverse as other universities, however they try to become involved with student life. There is school spirit everywhere about the campus, including but not limited to shirts, events, bumper stickers, and media, augmented by fan support and student involvement. Despite team performance not being as great as others would like, there is continual support from the UIW student body.

3 College Junior

Weather: The summer and spring months are usually very hot and humid. But that is South Texas for you! Not to mention the fact that UIW is about 5 minutes away from heavily-congested Downtown San Antonio, so the pollution doesn't help either, but it's not too bad!

Campus Housing: Living on campus at UIW has been really great and amazing! I have met a lot of people on campus just by living in the dorms! The dorms are fairly quiet and there are many places to sit and relax and or study. The cost is another story. Though I don't pay for my dorm, it still is a lot of money for one year to live one campus, I think that's why some people don't live on campus and choose to live in an apartment or at home, if they live in or near San Antonio. The housing process is fairly simple and there is no 100% chance that you will get exactly the room or dorm you wanted, but for the most part, the UIW residence life works really hard to work with you and your dorm and room choices! I suggest to everyone that if you want to meet more people and live in an awesome dorm, then live at UIW!

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Most of the guys and girls at UIW are Hispanic( Non-White, Mexican-American, Latin decent, etc.). and are Catholic. There are quite a few Whites, Blacks, Asians, Middle-East, etc. Most girls tend to wear short shorts and trendy see-through shirts during the summer and spring months, not to mention the fact that it is so hot. UIW has its' own social network page: UIW Confessions, where one can anonymously post his or her own comment(s), complaints, concerns, joys, etc. This is the place where gossip, rumors, secret-admirers, etc., can happen. For the most part, most guys here are somewhat nice, but more cocky and athletic than you would find at other schools- sorry boys! Boys will be boys, they have always said. And girls, well, you know, they can be nice, mean, emotional, dramatic and well, girls!

3 College Junior

Transportation: The UIW shuttle is pretty convenient, I say pretty convenient because there are only like three shuttles that run at a time, the speed limit is 10 mph and the campus is land-locked, but spread out over flat fault lines and a hill. The shuttles are pretty convenient because there are times that I honestly do not want to walk all the way down across to campus and especially if I happen to run late, which a few times I am, it's nice to be able to catch a shuttle and make it within a decent amount of time. The shuttles provide AC, which is great during the summer and spring times, when the Texas sun is nothing short of hot! I'm glad for the UIW shuttles!

5 College Junior

Majors: In order to get into my program you have to exceed a certain 3.5 or above on your GPA.The SAT scores have to be at a certain level. There are certain classes you have to take in highschool.

The University of the Incarnate Word has so much to offer. From the academics and excellent professors to the life-long friendships, you will not look back and regret coming to UIW. Most of the students really enjoy their experience at UIW. The friendships formed here usually last through college and beyond. There are also more genuine friendships since UIW is a small school, and keeping in contact with fellow classmates is very easy because you see the same people almost daily. UIW is a very diverse school, so it is like a "small world." The memories formed at UIW are endless.

The education is top-of-the-line, as it thoroughly prepares each student to excel in his or her desired field of study. The smaller atmosphere allows for more personal attention for each student. The relationships between students and teachers is very strong, and professors know students by their names because of the low student-to-teacher ratio. Sure, you will hear complaints here and there, whether it be about residence life or the cafeteria food, but keep in mind that everyone has different tastes, and nothing is perfect. Overall, students are very satisfied with their education at UIW and all that it brings them not only while they are in school but after they graduate as well. Professors and advisers make sure that their students are more than prepared for their careers and for whatever life may bring in the future.
