Nightlife: I like the events within school. I personally like the theatre at the student union. It is my time away from seeing all the class buildings that remind me of past exams and grades. It is my escape. I have not gone to any on campus parties besides events although they do seem fun because you are surrounded by friends. I hope that towards the end of my college experience, is when I will have time to do more fun things.

Health & Safety: I believe we have a great system of safety. I am a person who likes to go to the library to study, very safe, and walks to my vehicle and home. I do not hang out with people of violence and try to avoid trouble at all costs. The only concerned I do have, is more lighting all around campus. I know they added a new parking lot and it is very lit but there are main places, like the area in front of the Physical Educations 1&2 building that can use more light. I am overall safe. I also think that we should have a booth set up every Friday that will give out free things for safety. I heard of coasters that turn a certain color in case someone puts a drug in your drink, the rape whistle in case you needed help and I personally carry pepper spray. I know that the police on campus do not really surveillance at night after 10 but some people have work at school or class till that time, so they should be present or ready without having to say we don't go out to drive people to their cars, as it has happened once to me. But overall day time safety is at ease. The night is when they should be more aware.

Scholarships: I struggle with finance on a monthly basis. I work two jobs with the school at part time. One as a Chemistry stockroom personnel and also as a Student Teacher Assistant. I would like a job that is more steady and have an availability that is more open. I need a job that is about 30 hours weekly. Financial aid and scholarships are very competitive, and a struggle for me, I worry about paying my car payment to get me to school, the gas I waste for 5 days travel, and the insurance because I am 24, which averages to about $600. I wish I could recieve some type of aid that would cover me to live in housing so that I won't spend so much on gas. My transportation helps me to visit my families and Travel to my third part time job mentoring students across Mcallen to Santa Rosa. If that is ever possible, then I would be less stressed and would be able to focus more on my classes instead of daydreaming off to what I need to pay and if on time.

Computers: The computers at our school are sufficient but not always reliable. Sometimes they networking is really slow, especially when their are classes that have a due time for assignments and utilizing the speed of the Internet becomes a problem. It is hard to use wireless Internet at times because their are areas in the school that I like to call dead spots. Sometimes of the third floor it becomes harder to reach or the speed. As far as the printing system, I believe that we should be able to utilize the system freely. I like my work in color but we are constricted in that area. We do not have a lot of credits for all our classes as ar as printing as well and I would like to utilize the printing of bigger poster size paper and have that laminated, such as a periodic table, without having to go to an outside source and paying $10-40 dollars depending the size.

Local Atmosphere: I live in the small town and Mercedes where there's not much sightseeing and when i travel to Edingburg there's a lot more diversity and a lot more places to choose from. I never get tired of any places because unlike Mercedes, they have more than ten places to eat at. I can eat Italian one day to Asian the next and trying frozen yogurt for a treat. They have an array of places to shop and a lot of local businesses of people who were once students at UTPA. Edinburgh is very lively and friendly. The conversations with people that you might not know become welcoming and inviting. I like that UTPA is very opened and not judgmental to the way someone expresses themselves; wether through the music they listen to, the clothing they wear, or the way they wear their makeup for example. In Mercedes, it is very quiet, people just stare at you and when you try to be nice and communatative, it become awkward when their is that odd moment of silence.

Athletics: I am not too involved with the games of sports but I do go to the gym where you see a lot of people getting together and it becomes it's own Olympics we have yoga, Pilates, spinning, dancing, working out, pumping iron, just a lot of different things and one we have indoor rock climbing, running area, and we even have an indoor swimming pool. So overall I feel that the students are empowering a motivation for others to work on different machines do different exercises and maybe even last longer on their workouts instead of being 30 minutes to a hour.

Campus Strictness: I like our campus strictness because we are able to roam freely but there is protection against any violations that might occur. I would like to consider our campus protected, I don't feel that I am afraid walking to my car 10 o'clock at night and we have a lot of emergency systems in case something happens or if we need a ride to our vehicle if i don't feel safe but overall it is satisfactory and I feel at peace.
