Advice on Finding a Job/Internship
  • Every school in UTD has its own career center. Those centers are generally helpful in providing information and connections to students, and they seem to get better every year. However, they don't cater to individuals very well, mainly due to the volume of students in need and the University's focus still somewhat placed on graduate education and research. Some centers are also more efficient than others; the Management School's career center, for example, is very well-received both by students and business firms, while students of economics majors sometimes complain about their school's inactive career assistance department.
  • On-campus jobs are always in severe shortage. New positions do open every once in a while, and often you can apply for them online, but they are very quickly filled. A crucial thing in seeking on-campus jobs, therefore, is to always stay up-to-date on job statuses and act with haste when an opportunity arises. Remember: On-campus jobs run out faster than you can say, "Procrastinate."
