Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

UT draws students from all over, and it is little wonder why. UT has a personality all its own. The level of pride and tradition here is among the strongest in the country, and the amount of support Knoxville has for UT is amazing, especially with sports. You will love the laid-back Southern style UT has to offer, and you will enjoy spending time with the people you meet here. Ask any UT alumni about their most positive life experiences, and I guarantee you that most of those experiences will have occurred at UT.

It is understandable to see how UT can appear intimidating on paper, especially to those coming from a small town. There are many different activities to become involved in, and they are yours for the taking if you are willing to make the effort and work hard. The key to success at UT, as well as any college, is to learn to manage your time properly. As long as you remember that education is the main reason for coming to UT and prioritize accordingly, you will be very happy during your college days.

Majors: I have had several lab-internships at UT. I am currently involved in a summer-internship program which helped fund my research. Research and internships are offered by most departments before the end of the spring semester as long as students are actively trying to find them. I'm paid more working in a lab than I would be with an external part-time job.

Majors: Luckily, I found a mentor for my graduate program while completing my junior year of college. I volunteered in her lab before being hired and have now been asked to continue my independent project as a graduate student. It was an easy process for me due to my hard work in my undergrad.

Campus Dining: I live and eat off-campus, generally.

Athletics: The Vols are an SEC team, and while we're not the best in the country, there is huge support in the Knoxville area. On a game day, all you'll see is a sea of orange and white. Most students walk around UT representing our school colors on a regular basis.

Overall Experience: I'm in a smaller college, and because of that, I have been lucky to have smaller classes and more one-on-one teacher/student learning time. I have taken a lot of interesting courses that were not related to my major due to the vastness of UT.
