3 College Senior

Greek Life: I belong to a community service sorority called Gamma Sigma Sigma (non-Greek organization). Our sorority does a lot with Greek fraternities and sororities for various philanthropy events throughout the year and we have always had a positive experience. Greek students tend to be more involved on campus, and while they do live in specified housing paid for by their national chapters, they don't brag about it or make it out to be anything more than a place to live.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: University relations with Greeks are terriblie.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: I avoid fraternities, we tend to not see eye-to-eye on many topics.

5 College Junior

Greek Life: I think Greek life gave me an excellent opportunity to grow in ways I would have otherwise never been offered.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: Everyone who is currently involved in Greek Life at UT is very friendly and informative about the goings on, philanthropy, and community events. They encourage the newer students to explore and pledge.

If going Greek is something that interests you, going through rush is definitely something to consider. At the very least, you will meet people that you will see again and again throughout your college career. Through a Greek organization, you will be able to participate in philanthropies, parties, formals, and the many Greek events that happen throughout the year. If you choose not to do so, you will still have many opportunities at UT to keep you busy, and you will still be able to make many friends.

On paper, it may seem that the number of Greeks are relatively small, and they may not have that much impact on campus. As many students stated, most Greeks are very active and willing to participate in campus events. They, by no means, control everything, but the small percentage of Greeks at UT are very prominent and involved in many successful endeavors. Learn as much as you can about the individual chapters and Greek life in general. Talk with those who have chosen the Greek life, and ask plenty of questions. There is a lot you can do before going through rush to determine if it is for you.
