The University of Southern Miss is a great college as everyone there from the professors to the students make you feel welcome. You can tell the professors care about each individual’s education and comprehension of a subject. Even with a big campus it’s smaller than most colleges which goes for the classroom too, which is a great thing! There’s time to tend to most if not all students! Finding yourself and your crowd is easy too as they have different groups, activities, and events to ensure everyone gets their fair share of fun outside of the classroom. Everyone with different backgrounds and aesthetics mix and mingle. USM is the home away from home!
This is the worst school I have ever attended. graduation rate is high because the school is greedy for money. The school does not give back to hardworking students/staff; and only uses the skills and reputation of students/staff as recommendation to upcoming students. Students lose more money attending this school and must change majors before entering the MS program because scholarships are dictated by time, not achievements. I came in as a honors student and was given $1500 a year—overall I have paid $44000 out of pocket for housing, tuition, and the annual $200 parking pass; there is also a fee to use your debit card. If I begin discussing cultural competency and food I will lose the remaining characters to type.
I really enjoy the sense of community that I find here at the University of Southern Mississippi. My classmates and I are now a tight-knit group and work together to better ourselves and improve our education. I live on campus and love how much I am able to do within a walkable distance. I would like to see something like a convenience store on campus, so those that live on campus without transportation could have an opportunity to buy necessities, such as toiletries.
