4 College Freshman

Academics: I have done exceedingly well.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: I love Hattiesburg. Of all the colleges available in Mississippi, where I'm from, Southern Miss has the best college town with lots to do!

3 College Freshman

Computers: I do not know of any computer "labs", but the library always has computers available. I have my own laptop and could not imagine having to go to the library every time I needed a computer, though.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I hardly notice drug use on campus. If I do, its on the down low.

1 College Freshman

Transportation: The campus does not offer transportation considering how small campus is. I walk everywhere on campus.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There is every possible food option available in Hattiesburg. I have a friend who is vegetarian and although she did move off campus due to insufficiencies within the campus, she does not have a problem finding places to eat within Hattiesburg. A lot of places have deal nights or offer discounts, too!

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: I joined Greek life and did not have a problem getting in, but I am a legacy. I have several friends who are not greek, though, and do not seem to miss out! Greeks live in a dorm their sophomore year and then move into the house their junior year. The sororities houses are nice, but the fraternity houses are a bit run down.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: I received a scholarship that pays for almost half of my fees. I still have to take out loans, but that wasn't a surprise, nor was it a hassle!

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There seem to be plenty of options, but I don't think the schools helps a people find places to live off campus.

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: I wasn't quite sure what to rate the strictness. It is very strict on campus. The police will write a person a parking violation without hesitation. They are not too strict on underage drinking as long as a person is not carrying around open containers and acting a fool. Theres no tolerance when it comes to the dorms, though.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: There are some older dorms on campus, but they are in the process of tearing them down and rebuilding newer ones. I live in the newer dorms. They are very nice and private, but far too strict. I have more rules in my dorm than I did when I lived at home.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: My favorite athletic facility is the dome, where the women's and men's basketball team play. Of all the sports, we are best as basketball and the fans really get pumped up at the games.

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of choices. Constantly expanding. Most of my favorite resturants are close.

College Junior

Campus Housing: No campus housing available. Commuter campus.

College Junior

Nightlife: I don't know about the nightlife.

4 College Junior

Computers: Theyre are many computers available to use.

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: The campus is right off the beach and is beautiful. There are oaks everywhere. There are plenty of great places to eat in the area.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: There are lots of apartment buildings and rentable houses in the area.

5 College Junior

Drug Safety: I have never witnessed drugs on campus. However, smoking cigarettes is a huge problem in my opinion, even though there are provided smoking areas.

3 College Junior

Transportation: I don't know of any buses that come around that area. Cars are main transportation, with carpooling.

5 College Junior

Scholarships: The financial aid workers are very helpful and want you to receive any financial aid you are qualified for. They make sure you know about all the scholarships/aid available, as well as the deadlines.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: the campus police are pretty strict about parking. They're always going around checking for decals. Some teachers are strict on attendance, but others aren't concerned with it at all. However, tardiness is not accepted.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: Campus housing is ok when your first starting college, but it is very high depending on what dorm you live in especially if you want to live in a nice dorm with no community bathroom. The social scene is nice when you live on campus. There is always someone new you can run into and meet.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: The academic program at USM is good. Most of my professors have been great. I have had a few that was not. The registration process has been a breeze. Pretty much everything can be done online.

Off-Campus Dining: The off campus dining is okay. There are several dining places near my apartment but most of the time I cook at home.
