Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Be yourself on the Common App-one of the supplements even asks for something funny about you. The admissions officers want you to be honest.
  • Evidence of leadership, service, and talents are considered with your application, so highlight those, especially if you're lacking elsewhere.
  • GPA matters more than rigor of courses.
  • SAT between 570 and 650 (each section), ACT between 26 and 30
  • You need at least one letter of recommendation, so make friends with your teachers.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • At least one trip to office hours before tests is basically mandatory.
  • Attendance is mandatory in some classes, and attending every class is harder than you think.
  • It is not a major party school.
  • No one remembers if you miss orientation week events.
  • Rush week is too fun to miss, even if you aren't going to "go Greek."
  • School spirit is not that great.
  • Students are required to take three theology/religious studies classes.
  • Traffic is really terrible here.
Interviews & Information Sessions
Interviews are not offered at USD. Thirty-minute information sessions are given at the conclusion of all campus tours, addressing the admissions application process, financial aid, and various aspects of campus life.
Campus Tours
Student-guided tours are offered year-round during the week at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. They are also offered on select Saturdays, November through April. The tours last an hour and a half. Register online at www.sandiego.edu/admissions/undergraduate/visit/tours/daily_tours.php.
Overnight Visits
Over the summer, students and their families can stay on campus in an on-campus apartment. To reserve a room, call (619) 260-4623. During the school year, some prospective freshmen are invited to overnight visits sponsored by various organizations, like the Honors Program and SOAR (Student Outreach and Recruitment). Students invited to these events stay with a student affiliated with the program hosting the overnight visit. To talk to a campus representative about overnight visits, call (619) 260-4600.
Did You Know?
Student tours are led by the Ambassadors Club, one of the most popular clubs on campus. Students go through a rigorous application process, and select applicants are chosen and trained to give tours.
