The neighborhood isn't that safe. I wouldn't want to live off campus. The houses around don't help at all. There are apartments, won't deny it, but they aren't in a safe area.
Apartments Are Better – they have more a feel like home. its cheaper and you have yore own room
Student Housing in San Juan, PR – The Univeristy of the Sacred Heart in Puerto Rico doesn't offer off-campus housing. If a student is interested in off campus housing, he or she will have to look for apartments and housemates around the area. The univeristy does not offer this type of service and has nothing to do with the student apartments around the area, which can be a con for students traveling from far away towns.
Off-campus housing is a good option for students that have other responsabilities like marriage, children and full-time jobs. They will be located at the Isla Verde-Condado-Old San Juan area. This area is known for its beautiful beaches, fine dining, hotels and night life, which can be a distraction if a student doesn't know how to manage time well, and are extremely pricey as well.
Another option is Hato Rey, which is a plus because it is steps away from a train station, which has a stop at the university, and there is plenty of activities around, from sports and recreation, to arts and the financial district. This is a great option, but you have to look in advance, or only the expensive apartments will be left available.
The most common option is in the area of Santurce, which is where the university is located. It is known for its abundance in offices and arts, and the university will be steps away. It is also the most affordable area, however, it is not as safe as the other areas.
