5 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Great stmosphere, especially when its nice out.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: some things are not easy to get to if you don't have a car.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: I love the local atmosphere of URI. There are cute towns to go to and get ice cream or hang out in a cafe. Campus is kind of in the middle of no where but I love the farms around here. It makes the area prettier. I don't really see a lot of locals because I'm either on campus or in Narragansett which is more of a college town. Shopping isn't too great around here but the mall in providence is amazing. As for activities, hiking is definitely one of them. There are a ton of places to hike and enjoy the beauty of nature. Even going to the Black Point Lighthouse is a great spot to watch the sunset every night. By the way, Rhode Island sunsets are out of this world.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: There way off campus, and there isn't much variety.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: A bit far from places with things to do, but a bus or short car ride can usually get you where you want to go

The local atmosphere is a huge part of the overall URI experience. College students have taken over the community, much to the chagrin of locals, and made it their own. Since most students live off campus in the surrounding towns, the atmosphere is similar to what you would find on campus. Narragansett is your average town, but URI makes it stand out. Students rule the town and neighborhoods—they have turned this summer town into a year-round paradise. There are a lot of restaurants and bars throughout town, along with entertainment and shopping—shopping plazas and independentlyowned stores are all around. There is a movie theatre close by, as well as a bowling alley. Even grocery stores are taken over by URI students in Narragansett. The local atmosphere, however, lacks a mall and major commercial companies.

Since Narragansett is a beach town, there are several boating and fishing opportunities available. This offers students something a little different than what you would find in a city atmosphere. The local atmosphere is all about URI, and that’s a good thing.
