4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: The University of Pittsburgh is extremely diverse as almost every type of person, from nerd to rock star, is here. People can do whatever their heart desires and different types of people can be friends, but most of the time people tend to hang out with those who they relate to. With that said, people express themselves in how they dress with no shame.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Pitt's student body is literally so average when it comes to physical appearance. There are more pretty girls than there are attractive guys. There are honestly so few attractive guys living on campus that anyone slightly above average will have no problem finding someone to hookup with.

5 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Pretty diverse in the kinds of relationships people have. Plenty of hooking up and other casual encounters. But there are also a good number of students in relationships, mostly with other Pitt students.

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Just your average people. Everyone dresses however they want, from fancy to lazy. People are generally friendly, hardworking and outgoing.

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Few people are looking for relationships freshman year. Hookups are very common. People tend to get their act together as a sophomore and older. Everyone dresses pretty casual; jeans, sweatshirts, sweaters. If you see a ton of people dressed up, you know it's for an event. You'll find a good mix of those who hardly work and those who work hard.

There are enough students at Pitt to make a smorgasbord of potential relationships, whatever type you're looking for. The student body varies widely, though girls are almost always considered better looking. Pitt men have much less to complain about than CMU students up the street because they have many more options available. On the whole, the campus isn't especially notable for the amount of romantic interactions. While relationships aren't uncommon, they also aren't by any means the rule. Casual dating and hookups are frequent, especially during the first couple of years.

Most students find that it's not hard to find a great group of close friends at Pitt. With people from so many walks of life, it's no surprise. By the end of the first year, many people already have their future roommates picked out and have usual places and activities that they do. Pittsburgh is known for being a friendly city, and many are hard pressed to want to leave Oakland. The best advice is to meet as many people and do as many things as possible, especially in your first year. It can take some time to get settled in, but once you do, you'll likely find yourself surrounded by people who you genuinely good friends.

Social Scene
The social scene is largely what you make it. If you want to party, Pitt has plenty of opportunities to do so, every day of the week. Between campus activities, fraternity parties, house parties, and other venues, you can easily be a social butterfly, if that's what you want. The city also offers a good bit in the way of cultural activities and entertainment that isn't school-affiliated. Check local bulletin boards, the City Paper, and online for activity postings.
Hookups or Relationships?
Hookups are more common in your first two years, but relationships tend to happen more in your later years at Pitt.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
Hillman Library, for the most studious, as well as lecture classes (labs are helpful), and the cafeterias. South Oakland house parties and frat parties on the Hill seem to be the best place to meet the opposite sex outside of school buildings. For the older crowd, the local bars are packed, especially on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. When the weather gets warm, you can always meet guys and girls who are hanging out on the Cathedral lawn, either studying, tanning, or playing a pick-up game of ultimate Frisbee.
Dress Code
Every style of clothing has its place around Pitt, but some are far more prevalent than others. Tank tops, shorts, and/or jeans for the girls are most popular during the warmer months. Guys tend toward T-shirts or polo shirts and khakis. During the winter, sweats are popular.
