Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

"Wonderful," "amazing," "special," "family"-these are the most common words that students use to describe their times at Notre Dame. The University has a unique atmosphere that is embraced by many; the campus is basically self-contained, the dorms are all very close-knit, and there are truly strong connections between students. While the weather may test your survival skills and the administration may try your patience, the Notre Dame experience is unlike any other you'll ever have. The school's tradition and history create an environment where you'll feel welcomed the moment you step foot on campus.

Notre Dame is not an easy school, and it's important to remember that academics are huge. Above all else, you need to be willing to study and focus, or you're not going to make it through the University's workload. Students here are universally dedicated to their studies, and campus life reflects it. This is not a party school. Students may find themselves frustrated by the value system or the lack of outside activities. The best recommendation for Notre Dame is to visit and check out campus life firsthand. Often, the atmosphere alone is enough to sway your feelings one way or the other.

Weather: Local weather rarely affects campus experience. Weather is typically good, not at any extreme (hot, cold, wet, etc.). All four seasons are distinct.

Majors: Process of getting into the program was smooth and guided by my advisor. Difficulty only lied in selecting program from the choices available. Freshman students not required to apply to a specific college or program right away. Criteria for admission would be hard work and well-roundedness. Be sure to vary your activities in school (music, student government, clubs, sports, etc.). Do your best in classes but challenge yourself and be involved.

Majors: I am now declared as a psychology major with a supplementary pre-health major. This program allows me to explore my interests in the liberal arts while getting the education i need to gain entry into med school. Workload is high but worth it, curriculum is appropriate for program and challenging, facilities are top-notch. I am currently loving my program but would not have difficulty switching it for one of the other amazing opportunities offered with the help of my advisor.

Campus Housing: Campus housing is great though some buildings are older/smaller than others. Rooms not overly spacious but there is plenty of room. Strict rules regarding the opposite sex (single sex dorms with parietals) but resident community is friendly and welcoming. Buildings are clean and amenities are high-quality. Some dorms farther from class than others but typical travel time to class is under thirty minutes. Housing process and lottery system is fair and generally easy to navigate.

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of local options available. Diverse, high-quality, some convenient some not, good pricing.
