Local Atmosphere: Winston-Salem is a bigger city, but the only interesting parts are downtown and the historic district. Luckily campus i located just outside of both. Campus sits between downtown and some of the ghetto areas of the city.
Winston-Salem is known as the city of Art and Ambition. There are always tons of great art exhibits and shows going on nearby including the monthly Art Gallery Hop on the first Friday of every month. We also just got a Trader Joes.

Local Atmosphere: The night life is pretty bad, but overall, there is a lot of art events like plays, gallery hops, and more. The downtown area is very nice to walk around in or eat. There are local college sports that are fun to watch, and Hanes Mall is a good place for shopping.

Local Atmosphere: Hipster Central – Winston-Salem is a large city, and there's plenty to find, especially in the Arts district. There are coffee shops on every street by the dozens, musical performances and art galleries everywhere. Nationally renowned acts, such as symphonies and theater groups frequently head through the town. The downtown area has such a vibrant and unique feel, and you're within driving distance of Appalachian University or UNC Greensboro, so you can visit friends and hit up the mountain slopes in the winter.

Local Atmosphere: Around the School – Winston Salem has plenty of attractions near campus. Other than the Hanes Mall, Walmart, and Whole Foods, there is the Krankies Coffee Shop, Old Salem, and lovely restaurants around the area. It is a quaint and cute city.

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Winston-Salem College Atmosphere – A beautiful, friendly, small city with many good offerings. Some beautiful attractions nearby, such as Old Salem and Reynolda Gardens, a number of other colleges, and a large arts component. This doesn't affect me, but many say there should be some better shopping options, bars, clubs, or other things many "party" students like.
