5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Overall I really like UNC Charlotte. It is really diverse, there is a lot to do on and off campus, it offers a wide variety of majors/minors and I found a lot of opportunities here that every college does not offer.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: Its okay but I would recommend bringing your own computer and printer because the labs are not open to everyone and printing is not free. The library is not open 24 hours on the weekend and during registration week it is hard to find a free computer in the library.

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I do not live off campus but I have friends that do and I would definitely consider doing it because its cheaper than on campus living and the living conditions are better than the housing on campus.

5 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Most of this year was paid for through scholarships from the sate and school.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Its pretty easy going around here. You can get away with just about anything. As long as you are not breaking the law you are pretty much free to do just about anything you want.

Guys & Girls: The people here are pretty relaxed. We have a large international population so I am constantly coming in contact with people of different nationalities. UNC Charlotte is also a graduate school so I also come in contact with people of all ages.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: The weather is okay. Living in Charlotte, North Carolina, we experience a little bit of all the seasons. The weather does not affect my campus experience because I was raised in the area so I am used to this weather.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: I haven't started working in my major yet because I am still working on my general education classes. I specifically came to UNC Charlotte for their communications program so I am really excited to start working on my major next year.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Since I am only working on my general education classes, my classes aren't too difficult, my professors are great and my workload varies depending on what assignments I get that week.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Overall housing is pretty good. 2-3 new dorms opened this semester and another is opening next fall. Pricing depends on where you live but you do have the option of on/off campus apartments that vary in pricing.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: UNC Charlotte has many Greek organizations for the students to get involved in, from honorary societies to fraternities and sororities. I have seen them sponsor events around campus but they pretty much stay to themselves. Greek village is really nice but its also really expensive to live in as well.

Parking: Parking sucks! the permits are expensive and the spots fill up quickly. I would buy a commuter pass, even if I was living on campus, because they get all the parking.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: The school is located about 20 minutes outside of downtown Charlotte. There are a good number of cheap restaurants around campus for those who are on a budget. There is a bus that comes on campus that takes the students to Walmart and downtown Charlotte so the students without cars do have access to other parts of the city. The campus its self is really beautiful. There are lots of trails and wooded areas for people to explore. Overall I feel pretty safe on campus and there is a lot to do on campus, from the sports, recreational and competitive, as well as clubs that are open to all the students.

Nightlife: Nightlife is okay. You have to be responsible and safe.

Computers: In some buildings the wireless connection sucks. I find it very necessary to have your own personal computer and printer.

3 College Student

Overall Experience: The school is great. If I could do it all over again, I would probably go to a different college, or wait to go to college because of financial reasons.

College Student

Greek Life: I'm not interested in greek life.

Weather: The weather is generally not bad. Sometimes the challenge comes from the academic buildings. When it is hot outside, the building is hot instead of cool, and vice versa.

3 College Student

Diversity: There is a lot of diversity on this campus. Coming from a small town, it is very nice to meet people with views/backgrounds/cultures that are different from mine.

3 College Student

Health & Safety: Overall, I feel somewhat safe walking alone when it gets dark.

3 College Student

Local Atmosphere: Charlotte is a big city, and there is often something going on during the week and on weekends. I could see myself moving here after graduating, if I could find a decent job.

College Student

Majors: I have not done an internship while in college so I cannot rate.

3 College Student

Majors: I'm not that involved in my program. However, I will be in the future.

College Student

Transportation: I have not used the transportation services offered at my school.

3 College Student

Academics: I have picked decent professors. There are those that have accents or their teaching methods may be hard to follow. If you're in that situation, don't be afraid to email or meet your professor at their office hours. The registration process can be headache at times. The classes you may need, will fill up quickly; or the professor you want may not be available. Then you are left with horrible class meetings, times, and even a difficult professor. The registration process is first come, first serve. My tip for the registration process is: to not wait too late do sign up for classes and if the class you want is full, keep checking it from time to time for an open slot. The study options on campus are great. If you need help with a class, set up a meeting with a tutor or set up a study group with the people in your class.
