3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: There are numerous officers driving around campus. Though, I have seen less and less of them as the year has progressed.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: There is a lot of segregation on campus and a lot of diversity. Many minorities stay to there own groups.

2 College Sophomore

Facilities: My school is growing at a very fast rate. All facilities and athletic facilities are too small to support the growing school population.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: There is nothing extremely unique at my school. We have the average school gym, facilities, and clubs. We just recently got a new football team, hopefully that will bring more traditions and distinction to our school.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: Many computer labs are only available to certain students within distinct majors. Computers in the library are extremely slow and it is always difficult to find an open computer.

Overall Experience: My experience gas been great. The only large problem with my school and most likely others as well is that many professors today are researchers. This means they are not actual teachers. They are hired by the university to do research and only teach on the side in order to raise money to fund their research. This makes it very difficult to learn from inexperienced individuals. My school also just had its first ever football season. This brought the students together on a whole different level and was a great experience.

Off-Campus Housing: There is a lot more freedom living off campus, but driving to school in the morning is a pain. Especially because there is not much parking on campus, and parking passes are extremely overpriced.

2 College Senior

Parking: There is not enough parking for everyone that needs a space at the main parking decks, so they have had to build extra ones that are far away from academic buildings to try and get everyone. Permits are atrociously expensive, and so I don't even park on campus anymore. I have a place I go and park for free that is within walking distance of most my classes.

Campus Housing: I enjoyed living on campus because it was convenient and also because I was able to meet people I would not have been able to if I had lived at home. The dorms I lived in were very nice as well and had everything I needed. The cost was rather expensive, but I thought it worthwhile to live at school. I did not like, however, the limited options of eating healthily at school; there are just not a whole lot of good quality eating options unless one makes all his own food.

3 College Senior

Transportation: I never use the shuttle they have on campus because I prefer to walk and arrive places on my own time, and the shuttle times are not reliable enough to warrant using them. I have used our Safe Ride system, however, and this one has consistently performed well when I have needed to be home late at night when it is raining or something of the like.

Athletics: UNC Charlotte's basketball team continues to improve with Coach Major at the helm, and the arrival this year of football created a whole new atmosphere at the school. I believe it will take some time though for people to really become excited for varsity sports, but it will come, especially when our teams consistently perform at a high level, which they have not for some time.

Campus Strictness: A lot of people get away with a lot of stuff, it depends on what bothers you and if you report it or not.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: Parking here is good only when you know when to (after football games, weekends, etc.), during the school week and big events it's bad.

5 College Sophomore

Scholarships: As an athlete, I do not remember specifically all of the financial aid process but it has been extremely helpful to me in my (almost) 2 years here at UNCC.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I haven't used the health and safety facility very often, but when I had to get my insurance waiver the wait took a long time (it's probably because there are so many students here) but they could change the system so that it's more convenient.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The school is very diverse and has a lot of options in terms of majors and academics. The on-campus and off-campus options for living and eating are good and I love the diversity here (my high school wasn't very diverse at all).

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are many places off-campus that aren't too far (most people would consider you a "walker" if you went to these places) but there are great options not too far from campus.

3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: I'm not much of a "partyer" but of the ones I've went to have been walking distance and I've ended up enjoying myself. Also, they've all been off-campus and my friends have offered to take me to and fro.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: It was very apparent who was getting drunk and high in my dorm during my freshman year, but that year was the only one in that drinking (and getting high) was a problem. Most people that were being belligerent were punished for it.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The guys and girls here are mostly accepting and cool; I have yet to meet someone who is ignorant or mean to others.

Weather: Once again, as an athlete I had to get up earlier than most students for workouts but the weather/temperature was generally warm or slightly below warm (which is perfect for runners!)

4 College Sophomore

Computers: As an athlete, I have access to a private computer lab at UNCC but I initially did not use my laptop or the lab very often. There are a variety of places to access computers and there is wireless network availability in most places throughout the campus.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Most professors care about their classes and students profusely; they all respond to e-mails and are generally available to help after class sessions.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: There are a variety of classes to choose from and it's difficult for me to pick all the ones I want to take because they are all so interesting!

5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Overall I feel really safe on campus. I have no fears walking around at night by myself or fear that my personal belongings will be stolen from my dorm. The campus police are there if you need them and their number is available at all times for students to use.
