3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: dorms are decent, upperclassman villages are the nicest

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: UNCW is extremely strict. The visitation hours are horrible, and there should not be visitation hours anyway, we are in college and living in the dorms is like living at home. Visitors have to check in and out every single time they enter or leave the building.

Athletics: I feel like sports are not a huge part of campus life. We do not have football which is extremely frustrating. We have a lot of other sports but none are overwhelmingly popular.

Off-Campus Dining: Wilmington has so many amazing options of places to eat. There is definitely a huge variety of places and there is something for everybody. A few places are seasonal which is kind of irritating but it makes it that much better when your favorite place opens!

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: The night life in Wilmington is always great. There are a lot of bars and clubs downtown that are available. Wilmington also has many great places to eat.

Scholarships: Doing your FAFSA is always a hassle, but after it is submitted it is relatively simple to get the financial aid that you need.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I am an on campus student and I am looking for a house or apartment for next year but I have not been able to truly get into the process yet.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: It is fairly easy to get your hands on drugs and/or alcohol here, as it is with most college towns. However, if you do not wish to take part in any of these you will not be frowned upon.

2 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I live in Galloway and you either love it or hate it, and I hate it. The building is old and the elevators break down all the time. Most people that live here are the "party people" and go out multiple days every single week. The people are nice but if you don't go to clubs it is hard to hang out with them. The bathrooms are extremely small and not very clean. The showers are so tiny that you cannot move or bend at all without touching the wall.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I love the environment that I live in. Wilmington is a great place to live and there is a lot to do. I love that the beach is so close. The campus is the perfect size, not so small that everybody knows your business, but small enough that you see people you know on campus and it does not take long to walk or bike anywhere.

College Freshman

Greek Life: I do not know much about Greek life on campus other than a lot of people are involved in it

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: The students here are all very friendly and I have not had a problem with one person I have met. It is hard meeting people sometimes but once you do it is easy to become friends.

3 College Freshman

Computers: We have a lot of computers to use but when exams kick in it is really hard to find one most of the time.

4 College Junior

Campus Housing: Depending on where a student lives and whom they room with determines how a student views the housing situation. Most of the dorms are very nice and clean.

Greek Life: Greek Life on campus is pretty big, but it is not required. Not all of the students participate in greek life. The one's who do participate do alot for the commmunity and for the school.

4 College Junior

Nightlife: I am not one to go out, but my friends say that the beach bars, and the bars downtown are awesome.

Diversity: The campus is not really diverse, but we do not have many diverse students apply.

Overall Experience: Walking along campus, my school is small and yet just big enough to see someone you do know and also someone you don't know. The campus is beautiful with Georgian brick, and pine trees.

Local Atmosphere: There are many things to do in Wilmington, or little Hollywood as some people like to call it. We have many movies that are filmed here, also plenty of activities on campus and off campus including the North Carolina Battleship, NC Azalea Festival, and other activities.

4 College Junior

Athletics: School athletics are in high attendance, especially baseball and basketball. The students show school spirit and support for the teams, but the athletic department does not promote the games very well.

2 College Junior

Parking: There are hardly ever any spots open, and the parking police are sure to give out tickets.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: Make sure to apply for FAFSA in a timely manner, and keep up with the information on their webpage.

3 College Junior

Weather: The weather here is beautiful on most days, especially in the spring, summer, and fall. The sun shining and the cool sea breeze, it is lovely here. On the other hand when it rains it pours on campus.

4 College Junior

Guys & Girls: The guys and girls on campus are really friendly. Walking anywhere on campus if you smile at someone they usually smile back. We are a tight group here at UNCW and look after one another. The campus has an involvement carnival at the beginning of every semester that gives students the opportunity meet people, and get involved with multiple clubs and sports.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: UNCW is extremely strict about drugs being on campus. I personally have not seen any drugs or have spoken to anyone who takes part in drug illegalization, but I do know that it does exist on campus.

UNCW offers students a unique, one-of-a-kind university experience, with the combination of its state-of-the-art facilities, well-established programs, location, priority of placing students first, and constant growth. The University is quite young compared to other schools, but it's already ranked right up there along with the best public universities. So much expansion, creation, attention, and credibility has been gained since UNCW's start, and more amazing feats and accomplishments are inevitable for the University's future. Small class sizes, expert professors, and large major varieties bring students of all types to campus. With around 13,000 students total at UNCW, it's the perfect size for those interested in a medium-sized school, and it fosters a unique dynamic. Students have the opportunity to meet someone new every day if they want to, but UNCW is small enough where there is a focus on individual student showcase; students don't have to worry about being lost or overshadowed.

UNCW really gives students all of the tools for success through classes, cultural events, networking opportunities, academic programs, and career developmental training, but it's up to the student to take advantage of these offerings. UNCW can be the perfect fit because of this incredible attention and genuine care for students. The size of the University is right, and the inviting, welcoming atmosphere creates a home for students; everyone can be a part of the University and is encouraged to reach for their aspirations. The campus motto is "Dare to Soar," and UNCW actually means it and follows through with this encouragement. A top choice time and time again, UNCW allows students to go above and beyond just learning in the classroom and makes hands-on, realistic experiences possible. The University is a hidden gem, but is growing every day to gain more national acknowledgement. UNCW is a wonderful place of acceptance and growth, both in the campus and its ambitious students.
