3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: There is not much variety in the dinning hall

3 College Freshman

Diversity: There is not much ethnic diversity.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: Most facilities are great, could be more green.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Spirit exists, but sports aren't everything here.

2 College Freshman

Greek Life: It is not that hard to get into a frat/sorority but they are visible all around campus

Health & Safety: It is pretty safe on campus but one time, my friend and I hit the safety button that can be found all the way around campus and we were there for 10 minutes and no one showed up

Parking: There is off-campus student parking behind the Taco Bell on College St. that is kinda far from campus

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: UNCW overall is not very strict. The University Studies requirement is probably the most strict, because it will take you a while to fulfill your major requirements.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Wilmington is a beautiful place. There's the beach, and historic downtown is amazing.

2 College Sophomore

Computers: BRING YOUR OWN COMPUTER. I cannot stress enough how motivated people are to do schoolwork, but don't expect to find a free computer anywhere.

1 College Sophomore

Diversity: They need to do a better job with diversity. Mostly white people.

Health & Safety: UNCW does a good job at making people feel safe. There are emergency buttons all around campus to press if you're feeling uneasy.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Public transportation is really good around UNCW. They have buses running all the time, except at night. You'll need to get a taxi number for that.

Diversity: I think there is a wide variety of people and their beliefs on campus. Sexual orientation is also very diverse and with the diversity their is a group that you can join that can make the diversity feel homely

2 Recent Alumnus

Parking: Parking on campus is REALLY expensive, almost not worth it. And the permit parking is strongly enforced if you get caught in the wrong spot its a 25 dollar ticket however, their isn't enough parking for everyone which makes things difficult

Computers: UNCW has so many options on getting to a computer or internet. Through the vast amount of computers in each building, the iprint that are available from any location really and connect very easily to your personal computer. However, since UNCW switched to Hawk-wifi it is difficult to get a good connection on your personal computer and even harder to stream movies or watch netflix

Off-Campus Housing: I really can't say much good nor bad about off campus housing due to the fact that I live on campus

2 College Freshman

Diversity: UNCW is diverse in all aspects except for race/ethnicity. Whites account for about 83% of the student population, followed by 5% Black, 5% Hispanic, 2% Asian, and 5% other. UNCW is still pretty accepting of all types of people, even though it lacks diversity in the race/ethnicity aspect.

Diversity: UNCW has a very diverse campus, I see some of the different ethnicity groups sticking together. Not everyone is educated on accepting different diversities. But for the most part, everyone is accepting and welcomes different diversities here with open arms.

Campus Strictness: Strict but you can still get away with things. If you live in the dorms, the RA's are pretty strict about most of the rules. At the apartments on campus, you have a little more leeway.

Local Atmosphere: With the campus only being about 3 miles from Wrightsville Beach, there's always something to do. Whether it be riding your bike on the cross-city trail or hitting the bars downtown, Wilmington is never dull. The weather is wonderful throughout the year. The hot summers are easily cooled with a splash in the blue waters of Wrightsville. The shopping at Mayfaire is marvelous. Everyone wears friendly faces everyday due to the love of the school itself.

Parking: Parking is absolutely ridiculous. The lots are spread across campus but are limited to the students who can park in each lot. I live in the University Suites on campus and our lot has about 50 spots for the 500 people who live in the Suites and Schwartz together. The lucky ones who get to park in the 'up-front' spots soon feel the fright of walking from the lot in the woods, over a bridge, and then back to our living spaces once they pull out of their good spots. Off campus students are not allowed to park in the library parking lot until after 4 o'clock. The library has limited parking and when it comes to exam time, there is no where to park.

Campus Dining: I love the dining places at UNCW. There are 3 to choose from. They update their menu online and keep the buildings clean and enjoyable.

UNCW offers students a unique, one-of-a-kind university experience, with the combination of its state-of-the-art facilities, well-established programs, location, priority of placing students first, and constant growth. The University is quite young compared to other schools, but it's already ranked right up there along with the best public universities. So much expansion, creation, attention, and credibility has been gained since UNCW's start, and more amazing feats and accomplishments are inevitable for the University's future. Small class sizes, expert professors, and large major varieties bring students of all types to campus. With around 13,000 students total at UNCW, it's the perfect size for those interested in a medium-sized school, and it fosters a unique dynamic. Students have the opportunity to meet someone new every day if they want to, but UNCW is small enough where there is a focus on individual student showcase; students don't have to worry about being lost or overshadowed.

UNCW really gives students all of the tools for success through classes, cultural events, networking opportunities, academic programs, and career developmental training, but it's up to the student to take advantage of these offerings. UNCW can be the perfect fit because of this incredible attention and genuine care for students. The size of the University is right, and the inviting, welcoming atmosphere creates a home for students; everyone can be a part of the University and is encouraged to reach for their aspirations. The campus motto is "Dare to Soar," and UNCW actually means it and follows through with this encouragement. A top choice time and time again, UNCW allows students to go above and beyond just learning in the classroom and makes hands-on, realistic experiences possible. The University is a hidden gem, but is growing every day to gain more national acknowledgement. UNCW is a wonderful place of acceptance and growth, both in the campus and its ambitious students.
