5 College Sophomore

Facilities: Very modern and high tech facilities. I'm constantly being amazed by the amount of technology on this campus. They just opened a biotech lab on campus as well. Always improving.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: There are lots of computers on campus, but the wifi here is less than stellar. Many building you can not get a signal in and often the network is glitchy and will boot you off of it even if you supply the proper credentials.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: They have call boxes and campus police on campus 24/7. I don't think I've ever felt so safe on a campus in my entire life.

5 College Sophomore

Weather: Weather is nice year round. Rarely do we see a day here that is below 50, and on those odd times we do...it doesn't last. Rain can get bad here and of course being on the coast we do get an occasional hurricane. No snow days.

Overall Experience: Lots of friendly people here, great location 10 minutes away from the beach. All the professors are willing to go out of their way to help their students. Wonderfully laid out, centrally located campus.

Transportation: Transportation is very easy to get on/off campus.

Health & Safety: I always see police driving around campus, and there are emergency call boxes everywhere on campus. I feel very safe on campus by myself.

Campus Strictness: I think our campus is very strict compared to most other campuses. Visitation in dorms is very strict, and there always police all over campus to keep it safe.

Nightlife: There are parties every night of the week, but mainly Wed-Sat. Most people go out, and most underage people go to clubs. There are tons of taxis going in and out of campus on the weekends, which is good to see.

Academics: There are plenty of majors/minors offered here, and I feel the professors genuinely care about their students' success. They are extremely helpful and love students who use their office hours. Registration can be hectic, but there are many people to get help from, and I think UNCW has many resources for making registration easier.

Campus Housing: Personally, I do not like living in my dorm, because it is the freshman dorm which is loud, and everyone goes out many nights of the week. It was hard to sleep the first few weeks at school, and I had to adjust to the noise. Housekeeping gets very slack throughout the months, and girls can be very gross! It is nice to live on camps though, because it is very convenient.

Off-Campus Dining: There are tons of restaurant all around Wilmington, and many provide some sort of student discount, which is nice.

College Freshman

Majors: I am not currently in a specific program at school.

Majors: I do plan to get an internship eventually so I can get a job in the future.

Weather: Weather definitely affects the campus. When it rains, many people do not like to go out, a lot skip class, there are less in the dining hall. A lot of events are outdoors, so things get canceled. But, when it is nice out, there are many people outside, enjoying it. Many people go to the beach, or just grab a hammock to lie in on campus.

Guys & Girls: Girls and guys here are very attractive, and most people agree. I think there are more girls than guys here, so relationships may be difficult. I do see many couples around campus, but a lot of people are into going out often.

Greek Life: Many students are in Greek life, but not judgmental

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: There is not much variety in the dinning hall

3 College Freshman

Diversity: There is not much ethnic diversity.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: Most facilities are great, could be more green.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Spirit exists, but sports aren't everything here.

2 College Freshman

Greek Life: It is not that hard to get into a frat/sorority but they are visible all around campus

Health & Safety: It is pretty safe on campus but one time, my friend and I hit the safety button that can be found all the way around campus and we were there for 10 minutes and no one showed up

Parking: There is off-campus student parking behind the Taco Bell on College St. that is kinda far from campus

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: UNCW overall is not very strict. The University Studies requirement is probably the most strict, because it will take you a while to fulfill your major requirements.

UNCW offers students a unique, one-of-a-kind university experience, with the combination of its state-of-the-art facilities, well-established programs, location, priority of placing students first, and constant growth. The University is quite young compared to other schools, but it's already ranked right up there along with the best public universities. So much expansion, creation, attention, and credibility has been gained since UNCW's start, and more amazing feats and accomplishments are inevitable for the University's future. Small class sizes, expert professors, and large major varieties bring students of all types to campus. With around 13,000 students total at UNCW, it's the perfect size for those interested in a medium-sized school, and it fosters a unique dynamic. Students have the opportunity to meet someone new every day if they want to, but UNCW is small enough where there is a focus on individual student showcase; students don't have to worry about being lost or overshadowed.

UNCW really gives students all of the tools for success through classes, cultural events, networking opportunities, academic programs, and career developmental training, but it's up to the student to take advantage of these offerings. UNCW can be the perfect fit because of this incredible attention and genuine care for students. The size of the University is right, and the inviting, welcoming atmosphere creates a home for students; everyone can be a part of the University and is encouraged to reach for their aspirations. The campus motto is "Dare to Soar," and UNCW actually means it and follows through with this encouragement. A top choice time and time again, UNCW allows students to go above and beyond just learning in the classroom and makes hands-on, realistic experiences possible. The University is a hidden gem, but is growing every day to gain more national acknowledgement. UNCW is a wonderful place of acceptance and growth, both in the campus and its ambitious students.
