Academics: So many options and great professors!

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: There are many different programs on campus that educate students about drug and alcohol safety.

3 College Senior

Campus Dining: Lots of choices but not very healthy.

3 College Senior

Diversity: Great education on campus about the importance of diversity.

4 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: I love the off-campus dining at UNC Wilmington! Great variety and so many price options.

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: I did not have very good experiences with student housing because of roommate conflicts.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: The school is very supportive of new student organizations. Freshman dorms have stricter visitation rules than those of upper classmen. Every building requires a card to get into. The police are dedicated to protecting the students and staff and preventing altercations.

Off-Campus Dining: There are a lot of restaurants around the college, several within walking distance. Others are across south college road, which consists of 6 lanes and there is only one traffic light where pedestrians can cross. Students without cars will have a difficult time getting to further away restaurants. There is a shuttle system that will take students places, though I have not found it to be very user friendly. Cost is average, but there are no student discounts, and if there are they are not well advertised.

Campus Dining: Overall, the food and dining options are great, however most places do not stay open very late. It is also a little pricey, and food dollars, which can be used everywhere and saved some money by not charging tax, now do charge tax. This takes away from the benefits. Even so, the quality of the food is still better than that of some of the other colleges, which I have had the pleasure of trying.

Academics: The teachers are great. They provide a great syllabus and are fun to learn from, however I didn't feel like all of the students took advantage of that.

Overall Experience: UNCW was a cool experience but I didn't feel like the people were there to get an education. Everyone I met was just in college to have a good time and party. I didn't feel like anyone took their time there seriously

Nightlife: There are a lot of options for nightlife. Most go to bars and clubs. Everything is off campus. Our campus can be very strict when it comes to drinking on campus

Campus Housing: I lived in the apartments and it was great having my own room, however we had some problems with the shower and the rooms were very tiny

Off-Campus Housing: Downtown and Wrightsville areas are the most sought after. Off-campus parking at UNCW is far from campus

2 College Freshman

Diversity: Almost everyone from this school is middle class North Carolinians. It would be nice to see more people from other states represented here for a wider variety of culture

UNCW offers students a unique, one-of-a-kind university experience, with the combination of its state-of-the-art facilities, well-established programs, location, priority of placing students first, and constant growth. The University is quite young compared to other schools, but it's already ranked right up there along with the best public universities. So much expansion, creation, attention, and credibility has been gained since UNCW's start, and more amazing feats and accomplishments are inevitable for the University's future. Small class sizes, expert professors, and large major varieties bring students of all types to campus. With around 13,000 students total at UNCW, it's the perfect size for those interested in a medium-sized school, and it fosters a unique dynamic. Students have the opportunity to meet someone new every day if they want to, but UNCW is small enough where there is a focus on individual student showcase; students don't have to worry about being lost or overshadowed.

UNCW really gives students all of the tools for success through classes, cultural events, networking opportunities, academic programs, and career developmental training, but it's up to the student to take advantage of these offerings. UNCW can be the perfect fit because of this incredible attention and genuine care for students. The size of the University is right, and the inviting, welcoming atmosphere creates a home for students; everyone can be a part of the University and is encouraged to reach for their aspirations. The campus motto is "Dare to Soar," and UNCW actually means it and follows through with this encouragement. A top choice time and time again, UNCW allows students to go above and beyond just learning in the classroom and makes hands-on, realistic experiences possible. The University is a hidden gem, but is growing every day to gain more national acknowledgement. UNCW is a wonderful place of acceptance and growth, both in the campus and its ambitious students.
