UNCG has its own police station located right in the middle of campus, and many students find comfort in this, while some feel that it is too intrusive in a Big Brother kind of way. The UNCG Police do a decent job of answering and responding to emergency calls, and they even give speeches at the dorms every semester to let resident students know of their services and general safety tips. Unfortunately, campus police are known more for their reputation of giving out speeding tickets or disbanding peaceful protests than actually helping or protecting students.
Chances are, though, you won't need their services during your time at UNCG because the other safety features on campus are actually pretty useful. Every dorm is locked 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the doors can only be opened by the keycard access of students who reside in the buildings. This ensures that anyone who has no business being in a dorm cannot get in. The University also provides shuttle buses called Spartan Chariots to transport students all across campus, from dusk until 1:30 a.m. This is an especially valuable feature if you want to avoid walking alone on campus at night.
