College Senior

Athletics: No one cares. This is not a bad thing.

College Junior

Athletics: I have only been to one athletic facility and it was very clean and offered many activities. But I can't speak for any of the other facilities on campus because I have not visited them.

4 College Junior

Athletics: We have great teams, but the school isn't so bent on them.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Not everyone is into athletics but the good thing is that they are readily willing to work with new people. I have not been to the gym or sports area on campus. But we seem to fair well, both m en and women have sports and many of them.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: We aren't really a sports focused campus, so we don't really have a big sports following. Most students like Duke, Chapel Hill, or NC State though. There's a rec center on campus that is fit for any student with any type of goal, be it relaxation, weight loss, muscle building, etc. There are club sports which lots of people get involved in, as well as just playing on the grass on campus.

Many students blame the lack of a UNCG football team as the reason for athletics not being more prevalent on campus. It's pretty true. In a country where the most important game of the year is the Super Bowl, a University that is known for its soccer team isn't really going to stand a chance in making the headlines. However, UNCG still provides a very athlete-friendly environment. Instead of putting emphasis on varsity teams, the University relies more heavily on club sports. This works out to be more beneficial for the students because it is more inclusive. Anyone with the interest and desire can join a club sport—a much more positive approach than varsity teams, which only allow those that make the cut to play.

Outside of the realm of team sports, UNCG gets high marks for providing several facilities in which students can keep themselves active. The gym is such a popular place that many machines require that students sign up for specific times to use them. In addition, the University also offers classes on tennis, dance, swimming, and even bowling. Whether you choose to go the varsity route or pick something a little more personal, UNCG has what it takes to keep you moving.

Most Popular Sports
Soccer is undoubtedly the sport that garners the most attention, but baseball, men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's golf are also popular.
Most Overlooked Teams
The cross country/track, women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis, volleyball, and wrestling teams do not really get that much attention.
School Spirit
Almost every student owns a UNCG sweatshirt, and many cars parked on campus sport UNCG bumper stickers, but that is about as far as the general school spirit goes. It may be a bit stronger if you attend a home sporting event.
Getting Tickets
There are four ways that you can purchase tickets to UNCG athletic events: at the window, over the phone (must be paid with credit card), through the mail, or online. It is easy to get tickets and not very expensive. With UNCG ID, tickets are discounted.
Best Place to Take a Walk
Simply walking around campus is just as nice as walking on any sort of trail. There is a walking path on campus that runs around the dorms and the practice golf course. It is beautiful and probably the most ideal place for people to take a walk. There is also an indoor track in the gym right beside the soccer stadium, which is perfect for walking or jogging laps.
