Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

UNLV is an up-and-coming school. In the past few years alone, the University has made great strides with its academics and facilities. The Boyd School of Law ranks high nationally, even though only having been in existence ten years. UNLV just opened its doors in Singapore where students from the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration can attend for a year of study abroad. In the Entertainment Capital of the World, UNLV offers the Entertainment Engineering and Design Program where disciplines in engineering and the fine arts are interwoven to help create the spectacular shows on the Strip. The College of Business is one of the 6 percent of business colleges in the world to be accredited by the Association of the Advance Collegiate Schools Business, representing the highest standard of achievement for business schools and management education. It’s also one of the select few business schools to receive the dual accreditation for both the college and accounting program.

The faculty members are not only known for being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and as a Pulitzer Prize finalist, but many still work in their field and are willing to help a confused student in need and propel them into the real world with as much knowledge as possible. Though there may be the bad egg here or there, UNLV is filled with caring and helpful faculty and staff members who actually believe that they are there for the students. The facilities at UNLV have been revamped and built from the ground up to provide innovative, new technologies for the student body. The Science and Engineering building helps the university to move forward with research and The Lied Library and Recreation and Wellness Center are student favorites.

Located in a large city, UNLV has an advantage to offer its students, faculty, and staff—opportunity. With Las Vegas overflowing with residents and expensive housing, business is booming. And because Las Vegas is such a transient city, jobs, internships, and other career advancement opportunities are almost always available—and in all types of career paths. With the credentials and the sheer possibilities UNLV and Las Vegas present, students tend to have a sweet spot in their hearts for this place.

2 College Sophomore

Greek Life: If you are looking for a school with a great Greek life; keep looking. There is some Greek at UNLV but it isn't too noticeable. If you want to find it though it isn't too difficult.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Probably the much better housing options for students that don't live at home.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: With one exception you shouldn't ever have problems with the campus police assuming you aren't running around naked drunk with a weapon through campus. That one exception is parking. Parking permits are strictly enforced, rain or shine, day or night, fall, summer or spring. Get a parking permit and learn where you can and should park and you'll be fine.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: It is college campus housing. Staying on-campus for your freshman year will probably be helpful socially. After that you'll probably want to look at moving in to a cheaper place near campus.

Guys & Girls: It is very hot during the summer here. Expect to see a lot of skin walking around campus.
