2 College Student

Campus Dining: The dining situation on campus is vile. The hours are inconvenient, the food is not all that great, and it is outrageously expensive.

4 College Junior

Campus Dining: There is always something you like being served, even if that means eating pizza for the second time that day.

4 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Food is good for dining hall food. The halls close at 8 though.

Campus Dining: As a vegetarian my ability to eat healthily and enjoy food here is at a 0 out of 5.

2 College Freshman

Campus Dining: I was thinking about going vegetarian anyway, but one look at the "meat" they serve and it can make anyone swear off meat. There are little to no vegetarian options and absolutely no vegan options.

Some students at UNL are more cynical about dorm food than others. The largest complaint is not about the quality of the food, but its repetition. When students can’t stomach the idea of the nacho bar again, they venture to the Student Union food court or one of many restaurants downtown.

To put it simply, on-campus dining at UNL is not gourmet, but it is low maintenance. If you offered an off-campus student a free meal at a dining hall, he’d jump at the chance because although it’s not spectacular, at least he wouldn’t have to shop for it, cook it, or clean up afterwards. But, for students who eat dorm food more routinely, some variety sure would sure spice things up.

The Hewitt, or the Training Table, is inside Memorial Stadium and is predominantly for student athletes. However, the average Joe student can also eat breakfast and lunch there. The pluses—healthy food including the best fresh fruit and veggies on campus, skinless chicken, and lean red meat. The minuses—hats/bandannas are prohibited and you’ll sometimes feel a bit out of place.
Did You Know?
  • With UNL's meal plan there's no limit to how many times or how much you can eat in a day. There are also no limitations to which dining halls you eat in-so if you live in Abel you can still eat with your friends in Smith.
  • All of the dining halls have wireless Internet, so students can study and snack at the same time.
