4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: There are a lot of bars and stores and a nice little downtown. Lots of restaurants. Seems like pretty much anything you could want you could probably find here.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: I like Columbia, however I look forward to moving back home after 4 years.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Columbia is a cute college town but it's Missouri...enough said.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: The town is run by the school. The downtown area is unique and low- key. There's some cute shops and a local movie theater. I've never had a bad meal from any of the resturaunts- local or chain. There's lots of parks to visit. There's the true/false film festival and a blues concert festival.

4 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: It's strange. I never thought I would ever live in Columbia after graduation, but it has grown on me tremendously and I have taken a job in columbia after i graduate in May.

Basically, Columbia is both a booming city and a vibrant college town. The whole town still pretty much revolves around the colleges, so stuff is very affordable. However, the economy of Columbia has taken off, and so has the city overall. It was named Forbes Hardest Working City in America in 2013, mostly because the recession did not affect the town much. Tons of jobs in health car, education, real estate and new media.

It is not a big city, but Columbia is quite a town.

Columbia is a quaint little town. Much of the architecture on campus and in town is very old-fashioned looking, but the town is deceitful. In Columbia, you can always find something to do, whether it's hanging out with friends on campus, going downtown, attending house parties, or just walking on Katy Trail. Students do spend a lot of time on campus, not including class time. Students play Frisbee on the quad, soccer/football on Stankowski Field, or just wander around with friends enjoying the weather. When students need a break from campus activities, they step off campus right downtown for some more walking and sightseeing.

Mizzou is not the only school in the Columbia area. The University also shares the space with Columbia College, Stephens College, and MACC (Moberly Area Community College). Stephens and Columbia colleges are both located within walking distance of MU's campus. There is no rivalry between the schools, and many close friendships are formed between the students.
