It's a pretty chill school! If you're the type that like to engage to club activities or parties, you would be disappointed while attending UMSL. Everyone is minding their business here, most of us just come to class and then come back home, or go to work. Yes, more like a work/school type. But if you want some type of laid back, quiet, to study, it's nice here. We have some pretty darn good instructors here, and of course, some are not, even rated 1 star on RateMyProfessor website. You can easily apply for jobs on campus as there are plenty of them. One thing I miss for sure is students activities, I can barely make friends here as no ones really engage to events or activities. I'd probably go to SLU or WashU for this. Still, staff and faculty here are very nice to you!
I have been an online student at UMSL for 4 years now and it has been an incredibly rewarding and satisfying experience from start to finish. Aside from a few individual professors, the classes have been knowledgeable and have propelled me forward. The best thing that UMSL does is provide so many resources for students to access and utilize on their journey. For me, several advisors came together to give me all the necessary help and guidance I needed to complete my time here and make all the work manageable. All in all, UMSL is an excellent school that is both rewarding and challenging without ever being overwhelming.
There is a mix of people who commute, suitcase, live on campus, and international students. It creates a really diverse, interesting environment. The teachers I have had have all been extremely caring towards student growth and create a fun environment.
