4 College Junior

Athletics: UMSL takes great pride in their athletics department.

College Junior

Nightlife: Not familiar with the nightlife.

4 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: University of Missouri Saint Louis is in a great location. Most attractions, activities, cultural events, shopping, sports/recreation are close in proximity. There are several restaurants and cafes nearby. The campus police presence is strong, however, there have been several incidents that have occurred over the past year. The attitude toward students is very warm for the most part.

College Senior

Majors: I have not had an internship, however I am working towards one. I currently have no concerns about finding an internship because I have discussed my plans with a professor within my degree program.

4 College Senior

Majors: I am extremely happy with my program but am disappointed that I cannot attend summer school or register for courses for the Fall due to a bill that I have incurred as a result of reaching my undergraduate limit for financial aid. I am looking for a job to offset my education expenses.

Campus Dining: There is a variety between the Nosh (main cafeteria), coffee cafes, dining halls, dorm store, and bookstore. I haven't had a meal plan since I moved off campus but I heard they are getting better over there. I just didn't like that if I didn't use all of my meal plan I just lost that money, it wasn't refunded or anything.

Campus Housing: Some people really love dorm life. I'm glad I got the experience, and if I had to do it again I would. However, dorm life is not for me. I like my own space, which is why I moved off campus. There are different options for on campus living such as dorms, villa (bigger dorms but community style bathrooms), on campus apartments, and on campus apartments for those 21+, have a child, or have 60 credit hours. Living on campus is convenient and a great way to get involved on campus. UMSL is a big commuter campus. I love living off campus, but that's just my personality.

Greek Life: I am not involved in greek life on campus, and I do not have any friends that are involved so I don't have much input on the subject. I am involved in other student organizations on campus which are easy to get involved with. I had a roommate who participated in rush week, paid her application fee, and did not get into the sorority she wanted. I was not there I don't know if it was her or if it is really hard to get in.

Transportation: UMSL has a shuttle that hits every area on campus that has hard copies of the shuttle schedule free for every student and easily accessible. There is also a metro link (train) that makes it easy to get to and from campus and around the city. The school provides students with a free metro link swipe card every semester. I don't use any of these methods of transportation as I have a car but they are very efficient for the people I know that rely on those methods of transportation. There are plenty places to park on campus. Parking is also now included in tuition, it sucks if you don't drive, but students no longer have to come out of pocket for parking passes.

Majors: Another thing that drew me to UMSL was the degree program. There may be other schools out there that offer this (as I have not researched), but UMSL was the only school I'd heard of that allows students to create their own major. I am not the traditional student. I am not seeking a degree to get a really good job. I am an aspiring musician and audio engineer. The BIS (Bachelor's of Interdisciplinary Studies) program requires students to choose three interest areas of study. Between those three hours there must be 36 hours of study. In combination with my electives I am taking media studies, business, marketing, and english classes. When I graduate I will have a Bachelor's of Interdisciplinary Studies degree with a minor in marketing, minor in business management, minor in business administration, and a certificate in advertising, and it will still only take me four years to graduate. To get into this program I had to identify all the courses I would take to make up my 36 hours of study, and write an essay describing my career goals and how I would not be able to accomplish this with any other already existing degree program. I followed all of the steps and was accepted into my degree program, and I am currently working to finish my degree.

Majors: I love it because I created it and it is specifically tailored to me and my career goals.

Diversity: One of the reasons I ended up loving UMSL so much was the visibility of the LGBT community on campus. Students don't have to feel intimidated for being themselves on campus. The entire campus community is pretty accepting of LGBT students. There is a LGBT student organization on campus of which I am Vice President. Every year we put on a drag show that has an abundance of attendance every year. Our organization has been working with administration to get more gender neutral bathrooms (which we have accomplished). And we got a bill passed that added gender identity/expression to the non discrimination policy. Any problems that students have had have been addressed promptly and appropriately. UMSL has so much of a diverse campus which is one of the things that drew me to it.

Drug Safety: UMSL is not a dry campus, however certain precautions are supposed to be taken. The rules are not always followed when it comes to those policies. A lot of parties have alcohol present. Some people choose to partake, some don't. Either way isn't a big deal.

4 College Junior

Facilities: UMSL is always trying to improve campus life for students. They are in the process of building a new rec center for students that will be so much more inclusive to all students, not just the athletes or those looking to work out. They are also creating a more commute friendly main street that leads to campus, with bike lanes and bigger side walks. There are so many resources available on campus.

4 College Junior

Facilities: There is a place for everyone. There are centers for multicultural students that provide an abundance of resources, the student center is filled with resources, a variety of places to eat, and places for rest/study. The student center is a central location that acts as a one stop shop for students. Student life is also located inside the student center and have a wide range of things for students to get involved in on and off campus.

4 College Junior

Nightlife: People are able to get around to the things they want to go to. There is always something going on.

3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: I mostly work and go to school so I don't really have time to do much outside of that. Other students are more active in the social aspect, but there is plenty to do on and off campus.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: When staff is made aware of a problem, proper steps are taken to prevent the same things from happening again.

4 College Junior

Athletics: Athletics are a big part of the school but not everything.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: The school I attend wasn't my first choice but I'm glad I ended up here. I love my school.

4 College Junior

Computers: There are plenty available computers to use on campus. Having a computer off campus helps with homework but is not absolutely necessary.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I have never experienced any problems on campus and neither have my friends.

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: There is always something to do or see in st. Louis. Whether youre a broke college student or have plenty of cash there is something worth while to do.

4 College Junior

Computers: Plenty of computers and printers meant i didnt have to wait to print out my essays or do final editing.
