3 College Senior

Campus Strictness: In my opinion lots of drug use is tolerated especially pot and alcohol is readily available if you know where to look

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: It seems to me that the university is most strict on its academic standards, as it should be. I have not had experience with other types of violations, like underage drinking or dorm visits, but I know that there is a lot of drinking that goes on, and that it doesn't get caught. I have not had any personal experience with academic problems, but I know what the rules are and I know from other people that they are strictly enforced.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: I think it really depends but for the most part, it's pretty average. Lots of people can get away with doing things. But just don't do them.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Pretty much anything is allowed, no attention is paid to the law, and underage students drink and use drugs freely.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: It's a college town... Drinking is a given.

Campus strictness really lies in Michigan's plagiarism policy. Michigan takes academic honesty extremely seriously. Every class scans reports, papers, and essays for plagiarism. If caught plagiarizing, students will be referred to the dean and run the risk of failing the class, and in some cases, being kicked out of the University. In terms of drinking, as long as you’re responsible, students agree that campus strictness shouldn’t be a problem. The University's Department of Public Safety (DPS) roams the dorm halls on weekends, occasionally citing students for possession of alcohol or other substances, but only if they are notably rowdy and disruptive. DPS is mainly there to ensure the safety of the students. The state of Michigan's medical amnesty policy helps create a safe atmosphere in the case of underage drinking, allowing students to call for medical attention without legal repercussions. Off-campus parties in frats are rarely broken up, and Ann Arbor officers are usually lenient. Students at Michigan can feel free to have a good time, knowing that if anything should happen, authorities value their safety above anything else.

Facts & Statistics

Students Are Most Likely to Get Caught...

Did You Know?
Now a virtually dead Michigan tradition, the "Naked Mile" happens on the night of the last day of classes each winter semester (in April). What used to amount to hundreds of naked runners and thousands of peeping spectators has now been quelled to a few courageous (and often jail-bound) daredevils. Either way, it used to be tolerated by the cops until the University administration cracked down (no pun intended) on it in the past few years. Check out for more information and racy pictures!
