4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Officers are very nice and helpful as long as you don't mess with them.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Pretty average for the most part

4 College Senior

Campus Strictness: The campus is relatively lenient when it comes to partying. The exception is large, open parties that often serve excessive amounts of liquor. Those are strictly regulated.

5 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Michigan isn't strict at all, unless you're doing something illegal of course or if you're parked somewhere you shouldn't be, but if you're going to do something illegal at least be smart enough not to get caught

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: The administration understands that we work hard and play hard. Police openly explain that they are mostly concerned with keeping students safe. That means that they may break up overcrowded house parties or stop someone who seems dangerously drunk, but they aren't looking to get students in trouble. As long as you are respectful and use good judgement you shouldn't have a problem.

Campus strictness really lies in Michigan's plagiarism policy. Michigan takes academic honesty extremely seriously. Every class scans reports, papers, and essays for plagiarism. If caught plagiarizing, students will be referred to the dean and run the risk of failing the class, and in some cases, being kicked out of the University. In terms of drinking, as long as you’re responsible, students agree that campus strictness shouldn’t be a problem. The University's Department of Public Safety (DPS) roams the dorm halls on weekends, occasionally citing students for possession of alcohol or other substances, but only if they are notably rowdy and disruptive. DPS is mainly there to ensure the safety of the students. The state of Michigan's medical amnesty policy helps create a safe atmosphere in the case of underage drinking, allowing students to call for medical attention without legal repercussions. Off-campus parties in frats are rarely broken up, and Ann Arbor officers are usually lenient. Students at Michigan can feel free to have a good time, knowing that if anything should happen, authorities value their safety above anything else.

Students Are Most Likely to Get Caught...

Did You Know?
Now a virtually dead Michigan tradition, the "Naked Mile" happens on the night of the last day of classes each winter semester (in April). What used to amount to hundreds of naked runners and thousands of peeping spectators has now been quelled to a few courageous (and often jail-bound) daredevils. Either way, it used to be tolerated by the cops until the University administration cracked down (no pun intended) on it in the past few years. Check out www.nakedmile.com for more information and racy pictures!
