5 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: UM isn't right in the middle of Miami; it's actually in Coral Gables. But, everyone is a taxi ride or car drive away. I've been to museums, wynwood, about three concerts, and I've enjoyed a lot of shopping,

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The campus is very well lit, and if you have to get back to the dorms late we have a free "night ride" type thing. Crime on campus is little to nothing, but the surrounding area has been known for robberies (red road).

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I wouldn't trade UM for anything in the world.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: While the football is definitely not the best in the country, everyone loves the team regardless. When you go to UM, you bleed orange and green.

2 College Junior

Campus Housing: You would think that with the cost to attend this school that the housing available would be more spacious and just nicer. The dorm layouts seem outdated and there is not enough for the amount of students there. Most students prefer to live off campus because of this.

5 College Junior

Academics: Depending on the class, the class sizes are fairly small. You are definitely able to create relationships with professors. The workload is a lot but if you manage your time well you should get As. Tutoring is always available for any class.

Academics: My major is psychology and i love the classrooms and professors. They allow you to also get involved in research where you can help conduct the studies or even be a test subject and get paid for it. The advisors are friendly and always available when you need them.

Local Atmosphere: Miami is a great city with alot of oppurtunities and things to do. I love how many wealthy people live here.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Although RAs can be a nag about following policies and rules, there are ways around them.

2 College Junior

Health & Safety: Often times, someone is getting robbed nearby campus. However the notification service helps us students know when there is a situation.

4 College Junior

Athletics: Our teams and favilities are great but I wish we did not have to travel so far for football games.

2 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There is not much variety when you are looking for a quick, affordable meal. Especially late nights.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: I love my school. It is paradise.

Greek Life: I am a member of a fraternity in the national pan hellenic council and I am also on the National Pan Hellenic Council e-board. I feel like they do not treat the organizations under NPHC equally as they do the association of Greek Letter Organizations. The facilities they provide to us are much smaller than those given to AGLO greek chapters. I just feel like there should be more balance. Besides that, being greek is awesome and you a role model to many people on campus, especially the incoming freshmen.

Scholarships: The school is very expensive and the cost of attendance continues to rise. Therefore i feel like the scholarships offered should also increase with the cost increase.

3 College Junior

Campus Dining: I wish there were more/better food options.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: We have our own official police force and they're constantly around campus. They send you text/call/email alerts anytime something ahppens on campus. There's safety rides to take you from place to place if you're alone late at night. They take security very seriously.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: I love it! Its really like a community and everyone is cool with each other. Its a lot of work though being in architecture but they understand that and everyone is willing to help of they can.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: There are so many majors and minors that you can do. Its very diverse in what they offer. From my experience the curriculum is great and my professors are great too.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: They school has a lot of good looking people which you would associate with Miami. A lot of people have vibrant social lives full of partying and such. However, there's also people who are of all different interests so will always find omeone with something in common with you

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Its pretty decent most of the time. Some times they have really good stuff at the dining hall sometimes is awful. There's a lot of other restaurants on campus but they all close early.

5 College Sophomore

Diversity: Its one of the most diverse schools in the country. There's people from all over the world of all different races, beliefs, etc. and they encourage that and are very open to it.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The social atmosphere is great especially in the freshman dorms. you will probably meet most of your friends there and they hold a lot of events in each building for the students to have fun and meet each other. The building and rooms themselves though are lacking. They're livable and pretty decent but its not 4 star hotel

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: In terms of strictness they place emphasis on the more important things but others are more lenient such as dorm rules and so on. While there are still rules they treat you like an adult so the rules arent terribly strict.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: I love the architecture program here. It's really unique in what they offer, what the teach and how they teach it. The arch school is like a big community everyone knows each other and always willing to help. THey really encourage you to pursue whatever style/ method you want while always guiding you in the right direction.

Despite daily griping about tuition costs, parking, thunderstorms, and hard classes, most students really seem to enjoy UM. Excellent attributes like the nightlife, weather, and culture seem to cancel out some of the bad things about being in Miami. For some students, these bad things include the unapproachable "hot" girls and guys on campus, while others find life in the dorms to be a challenge. The complaints about college are basically what you'd expect to hear anywhere. It appears that the bad things at UM really aren't that bad, but the good things are very good. Miami is one of the coolest cities in the world for a college student, and that goes deeper than just the superficial bar and club scene.

Students who are unhappy generally figure it out within a semester and transfer out of UM, usually to somewhere closer to home. College is tough, especially the first couple weeks if you come without knowing anyone. Making a whole new group of friends for the first time since kindergarten is one of the hardest and most stressful things you may ever have to do. But the end result of this process is friendships that you'll likely maintain for the rest of your life. Whether it's your roommate, classmates, fraternity brother, or sorority sister, college is a time when you should make friends and have fun. Despite the initial challenges of coming to college, there are few cities in the world that are as fun as Miami.
