Campus Dining: Charwells will not work with student government, they must have their way, and the employees are treated awfully by their bosses. But the students love the workers

Overall Experience: I love my school, it has it's downs, but there are so many better aspects of the school.

5 College Student

Academics: Miami loves it's academic rank, and wishes to keep it very high!

Academics: Professors are very helpful, and want you to suceed

Majors: So many options, and everyone takes field trips to experience their major first hand.

4 College Student

Majors: I'm in architecture, and they had an optional portfolio, where you could include any art you wanted. Also, the application was easy and straight forward.

3 College Student

Campus Strictness: Sometimes I wish they were more strict, but what can you do?

5 College Student

Nightlife: You can go to clubs and have a great time! If you're a guy you will not get into frat parties unless you have around a 9 to 1 girl to guy ratio. The frat arties turn out to be all girls, and then all the girls leave, so their parties suck

3 College Student

Campus Housing: Dorms are nice, but there are so few that almost all upperclassmen live off campus, it becomes super competitive to get ppartments that people will live really far from campus just to get a cheaper option.

5 College Student

Local Atmosphere: It is so easy to get around Miami, with the Metrorail (monorail) system, as well as cab services, and many different bus routes, you can get anywhere for $5 and an hour of your time!

5 College Student

Weather: It's Miami, does it need explaining?

4 College Student

Health & Safety: We have a great police force, but you won't see them

3 College Student

Computers: Tech sucks, and they can't fix anything.

4 College Student

Off-Campus Housing: Unfortunetly, we can't garentee housing after freshman year, so good luck!

5 College Student

Diversity: We are the most diverse campus in the United States, and we are very proud of it! Just look around and you won't see a majority, or minority.

3 College Student

Scholarships: They give a lot for achedemics for incoming freshmen, but nothing outside that

4 College Student

Athletics: Club sports have priority over intramurals. People only care about football, and title 9 screwed us out of almost all varsity men's sports.

2 College Student

Transportation: The school only cares about on campus, you can spen $30 on a cab to the airport and they don't care

3 College Student

Drug Safety: The campus police just need to look. Also, with a "smoke free" campus, it's no where close

1 College Student

Greek Life: No sorority housing, guys are mean and exclusive

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Campus security is very good about notifying people whenever an issue occurs and provides pictures of offenders so you can be on the look-out.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: If you want to live near campus expect to pay top $ as it is very expensive to live in Coral Gables. Also, there is a high demand for off-campus housing so people bid higher than list price on apartment rentals.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: I am not interested in this topic so haven't really looked into it much. Seems to be that if you're into Greek life, it is available. Those who do like it, those who don't really don't pay it any attention.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: I don't live on campus but my friends who do say that it is pretty good.

4 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Campus police are very visible. Better make sure you have your student ID with you at all times.

Despite daily griping about tuition costs, parking, thunderstorms, and hard classes, most students really seem to enjoy UM. Excellent attributes like the nightlife, weather, and culture seem to cancel out some of the bad things about being in Miami. For some students, these bad things include the unapproachable "hot" girls and guys on campus, while others find life in the dorms to be a challenge. The complaints about college are basically what you'd expect to hear anywhere. It appears that the bad things at UM really aren't that bad, but the good things are very good. Miami is one of the coolest cities in the world for a college student, and that goes deeper than just the superficial bar and club scene.

Students who are unhappy generally figure it out within a semester and transfer out of UM, usually to somewhere closer to home. College is tough, especially the first couple weeks if you come without knowing anyone. Making a whole new group of friends for the first time since kindergarten is one of the hardest and most stressful things you may ever have to do. But the end result of this process is friendships that you'll likely maintain for the rest of your life. Whether it's your roommate, classmates, fraternity brother, or sorority sister, college is a time when you should make friends and have fun. Despite the initial challenges of coming to college, there are few cities in the world that are as fun as Miami.
