University of Massachusetts Amherst Reviews
Rating 3.95 out of 5 5,315 reviews
I really enjoy the social aspect of the University of Massachusetts. Since it’s such a big school, it’s an amazing way to meet new people and create great college experiences. Another positive is the food provided at Umass, as it is recognized as #1 in college dining. There is great variety and you can definitely get your moneys worth with the meal plan! The only negative I’ve found with the time I’ve spent at this university is the big classes. Of course this depends on your major, but majority of the classes at UMass consist of 200-300 people; very big lectures. It makes learning complex topics even harder and often times the professor push a lot of their responsibility onto the TA’s (student teaching assistants). While some times these extra help opportunities can be helpful, it’s hard to find the time to actually attend these sessions, especially when working a job or trying to balance other classes. Overall, the University of Massachusetts is a great option.
As a student with ADHD and mental health issues majoring in Biochemistry and molecular biology during covid my academic experience and performance was not stellar but overall the school is INCREDIBLY accommodating and truly does desire students to succeed and will work on individual paths towards graduation even if they are not the typical 4 year full time plan. I took one semester off completely and two semesters part time and it was an incredibly easy process to get those processes approved. Professors are overall kind and understanding and most (there are some exceptions) are accommodating for disability and extenuating circumstances. I have loved the friends I’ve made along the way and am satisfied with my academic knowledge and experience gained. Go UMass!
As a student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I’ve had a truly enriching experience. The student body is incredibly diverse, and I can always find people from all walks of life. This diversity fosters a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere. Also, there’s always something happening on campus! From club meetings to sports events, you’ll never be bored. Academic wise, the university offers a wide range of academic programs, from liberal arts to STEM fields. Professors are knowledgeable and approachable, and they genuinely care about your success. The variety of classes allows you to explore your interests and discover new passions. One thing I would like to see change would be a new gym, considering how crowded the existing one gets.
