3 College Freshman

Nightlife: I don't really go to parties because they're not something I enjoy. But from I hear, they aren't that great.

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: We are a top party school and it is almost impossible to not have something to do any day of the week, especially with a fake. The parties are crazy and a huge part of why I love UMD.

College Senior

Nightlife: I do not party. To focused on the workload.

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Love love love the nightlife at Maryland. If you don't have a party to go to, go to the bars. The bouncers aren't usually strict and it's so easy to pregame for them. Frat parties are open to non-frat guys during the rush season but after that they are usually closed off to other guys and open to all girls; sometimes guys can pay to get in but you really don't know until you try to go in which can be annoying.

4 College Sophomore

Nightlife: The night life at my school consists of a lot of crazy alcoholics and trashy students. If that isn't your scene, then you wouldn't have fun. However, if you do not mind it, it can be a good time. There is typically good music at all the parties, a lot of dancing and alcoholic games and you tend to meet a lot of different people every night you go out.

With only a handful of bars in town and no bar on campus, it’s a good thing that D.C. and Baltimore are not too far away. As for parties on Fraternity Row, times have changed: alcohol-focused parties are fading, and UMCP seems to be slowly changing into a barren, dry campus, as it continues to crack down on on-campus revelries. This is where living off campus comes in handy for students who crave alcohol and parties.

There are thousands of above-age students on campus, and even though not all of them are patrons of the bar scene, many students enjoy the experience of doing the bar thing on a Thursday, Friday, and/or Saturday night. Now that the University has become stricter about on-campus parties, these bars may become more crowded, as students search for alternatives. Students also bring the nightlife into their own homes and apartments by throwing parties that don’t require an ID or a wait to get in.

Organization Parties
Given that there are nearly 600 organizations on campus, you can imagine the potential for events at UMCP and in the College Park area. An array of various student groups throw events throughout the year. Fraternities have their rush parties at the beginning of the semester and sometimes themed parties during the semester.
Did You Know?
  • The liquor board does come out occasionally to check on bars. They issue citations to students who attempt to use fakes.
  • Cops patrol Route 1 and park outside the bars. Have a great night out, but do not be belligerent or else you could be arrested.
