Local Atmosphere: During the school year, its a very social atmosphere. Most of the places nearby are 21 and older, which is a drag for those who won't be 21 for a while. There are lots of good places to eat off campus.

One of Maryland’s best and worst attributes is its location. The campus is conveniently located between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, both of which are only a quick Metro train ride or car ride away. The city of College Park (CP) concerns students, and the students concern the residents of the town. As for CP’s offerings, there are restaurants and eateries galore, and there’s a Metro station that allows students to escape the monotony of the town. It’s not all that bad, though; some students are so fulfilled with campus, which acts as its own pseudo-city, that they rarely need to step off it.

College Park would be a great town if D.C. and Baltimore weren’t so close by and so easily accessible from campus because these two great cities make College Park seem like only a fair town. The business district seems to be flooded with places to eat, and while there are malls just minutes away, College Park is actually the perfect size for getting your hands on basic necessities and returning to campus quickly. Overall, the UMCP campus tends to be more enjoyable than the town of College Park—that’s for sure.
