Local Atmosphere: nice area but needs more variety of places

College Junior

Local Atmosphere: If you have been living here your whole life like me it is very easy to go shopping off campus. For those who are new to the area you have to go shopping with someone who knows the area or you will think the local atmosphere is boring and that there is nothing to do. The area around the campus is kind of quiet in terms of activities. There are not many museums that are close you will find those in DC or Baltimore. I all depends on your willingness to look up places to go you cannot just drive and end up at a fun place.

Local Atmosphere: The local atmosphere is good for a college campus. And if you do not want to stay near campus, there is always easy access to D.C. and other areas.

Local Atmosphere: just like any other college town

Local Atmosphere: College Park basically sucks, but we come to know and love it. The campus is super nice, and getting to DC is fairly easy.

One of Maryland’s best and worst attributes is its location. The campus is conveniently located between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, both of which are only a quick Metro train ride or car ride away. The city of College Park (CP) concerns students, and the students concern the residents of the town. As for CP’s offerings, there are restaurants and eateries galore, and there’s a Metro station that allows students to escape the monotony of the town. It’s not all that bad, though; some students are so fulfilled with campus, which acts as its own pseudo-city, that they rarely need to step off it.

College Park would be a great town if D.C. and Baltimore weren’t so close by and so easily accessible from campus because these two great cities make College Park seem like only a fair town. The business district seems to be flooded with places to eat, and while there are malls just minutes away, College Park is actually the perfect size for getting your hands on basic necessities and returning to campus quickly. Overall, the UMCP campus tends to be more enjoyable than the town of College Park—that’s for sure.
