4 College Sophomore

Academics: The teachers are there to help you. Not only are they your professor, but they are also there to utilize as editors and as advisers. Even though you are assigned an adviser for your degree any teacher on campus that you feel you need to talk to is usually available.

Transportation: Besides Taxis the transportation either consist of having two feet and a heart beat. The other means of transportation besides taxis would also be owning a car.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: Although he Recreation program just got cut they are now offering a Business Administration in Recreation. Which is a great degree fr myself, because I am looking to be a Park Ranger of some sort, or to own my own guiding services company.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: They have plenty of options for students to chose from.

Local Atmosphere: Presque Isle is a smallish town, but it is jammed packed in the town center. There are many different locally owned business. There is also any place to go out into nature and just explore.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: UMPI recently implemented a tobacco free campus. Many students partake in smoking weed, but no one ever notices, because they are pretty crafty and not stupid enough to get caught. Also drinking is a huge hing on this campus.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: We have many foreign students, and we have many students from out of state. We support anyone's sexual orientation and religious background.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: We did just get all the computers in one lab replaced with brand new Apple desktops. It is pretty cool because you can either log into windows or you can log in to the mac settings. Also there is no 24 hr labs which really sucked because there was a time when my laptop was broken and i need to write papers after I get done work at night. The interent connection itself is a bit iffy. Although yes it works most of the time sometimes it takes ages to load pages from the computer lab computers.

Health & Safety: To be honest the only time I have ever seen campus security is when they re writing tickets. Then again I feel really saw here anyways with out the campus police patrolling the grounds all the time.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: It is always a bit col here, but it is worth it in the views alone. It just snowed today actually and it is only October 28th. It does rain a lot as well here.

Nightlife: Not really that many options in northern Maine. there are a few bars, but nothing that screams hey lets party!!!

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: UMPI has excellent athletic teams. We even have a girl that is from California who plays on our means varsity baseball team. She is one of the best players on the team. The fact that the guys are accepting and non judgmental about this makes the athletics that much better. Our sports team members are well rounded individuals with a sense of where they are heading in life. I personally just started living on campus this year and so far I have not heard a thing about intramural sports.

Guys & Girls: I personally do not even see why this section is in this survey. Who cares what the other students look like. I mean does a student really enroll in a college based on what the students look like. When I enrolled here it was because I wanted to obtain a degree and better my future. If I must rate them then i would say that the girls here are an interesting mix. The guys are as well. It is basically your average mix of young adult. Were you have a percentage that is good looking and well dressed, and then you have your nerdy people with no sense of fashion. Although I should mention that like any place in the world there are some people who are just weirdos and or have mental issues, but they are going to college to break down the barriers they face with their challenges.

Facilities: University at Maine in Presque Isle is an interesting school. It is a very accepting and honest community. I enjoy the fact that the buildings are well kept and the gym is spectacular. The library itself is a great place as well. with three floors for references and plenty of study areas to accommodate the students studying atmosphere. One building that is in need of some renovations is Weiden Hall, which is the center for the arts and where the athletics department is held. The theater with in the hall needs to be updated badly. the seats are worn and some many are broken.

Computers: There are a large number of computers on campus, and we also have a really nice Mac lab. Printing is very easy. The wireless works great pretty much anywhere on campus. It's nice to have your own computer because the labs and library close at 10 pm, but there is no need to bring a printer.

Athletics: I have been an athlete for 4 years and also involved in the Athletic Training program. A lot of the students at UMPI are athletes, and fitness is a big part of the student body's priorities. Team performance is so-so. UMPI is a small D3 school, so sometimes the emphasis is more on participation than performance. At the same time, this can allow someone to try a new sport and get involved. The athletic facilities are great- Gentile Hall is a wonderful resource, the athletic training staff and students are phenomenal, and the campus is surrounded by farm roads and snowmobile trails that are great for long runs. UMPI is also in close proximity to two world-class nordic skiing facilities that are free to ski at any time of the day!

Academics: There is a lot of variety in academics; it depends on the program that you are in. In general, the registration process is very easy- it's a small school, so it's pretty easy to get into the classes you want. I have never been wait-listed or not been able to get into a class I wanted because of it being full. However, since it is such a small school, many upper-level classes offer only one section so it can be difficult to make classes in different majors fit in together. The professors are great, and because it's a small school student-professor relationships are fantastic.

Academics: I am an art major, and all of the professors are fantastic, very knowledgable and excellent artists themselves. They all are very willing to help you make your work better, and share their experiences about being working artists. They are incredibly supportive. The art program in general is excellent- it is small and intimate, which facilitates really good critiques and student-professor relationships.

Off-Campus Housing: There are a lot of apartments around town, although there isn't any designated "student housing" apartments like I have seen in other college towns. The cost is very reasonable. I have had the same landlord for the past 3 years, and he is great- very trustworthy, he gets things fixed as soon as I tell him something is wrong, and his apartments are spacious and bright. I cannot vouch for other landlords and buildings in town.

4 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: If you are an outdoorsy person then this campus is great for you. The area is full of scenery and the nearby parks are great for hiking, walking, and skiing.

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: I have never felt unsafe on campus. All of the students are pleasant and there are always people around. Campus security is always around and the campus is small so they can get anywhere quickly.

4 College Senior

Nightlife: There aren,t a whole lot of places to go out and party, but the town does offer charm and other things to do. Most things are walking distance away which is great.

3 College Junior

Campus Dining: The quality of food has declined. Only one dining hall. When I order a chicken burger it comes out tasting like old french fries. On the up side they added a stirrfry counter.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I wouldn't say the drug scene at UMPI is all that bad. People smoke marijuana on a regular basis, but nothing real hard like cocaine or meth. People drink, but that's nationwide, not just here. Yeah you'll get the few who spend their nights partying and are perpetually recovering the next morning, but the majority of students are here to get decent grades while still having a bit of fun.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: If northern Maine has anything, it's places to get something to eat. Downtown Presque Isle is almost entirely comprised of restaurants. You can get food from pretty much any area of the world you want such as Mexican, Italian, Chinese, American, and anything else you could want. One plus is that the area isn't very big so things aren't more than a short walk away from campus.
