2 College Freshman

Parking: I have to show up early just to make sure I find a spot and get to class on time

1 College Freshman

Parking: Parking is bad I've heard. But I walk to campus and avoid the issue completely.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: Okay parking sucks. On campus parking is outrageously expensive and there is only 1 lot for the lowest paying option. (which is the only one students can purchase). otherwise you're looking at parking in someone's driveway or pretty far away from campus. Supposedly they are going to be fixing the parking when they begin the master plan, but in the meantime i think parking is going to become even harder to find.

2 Recent Alumnus

Parking: Very expensive for a parking pass, and very limited spaces. Also a hassle to get from one point to the other on campus.

3 College Junior

Parking: I do not drive on campus but I know that permits are far to expensive and parking is an absolute joke but that is right on par for every college I've been to.

Students aren’t thrilled with the parking situation at KU. The parking department oversells lots, so finding a parking spot at busy times of the day in the dorms can a real pain. Parking on campus isn’t allowed until after 5 p.m., and students have to be very sure they read all signs in the area—tickets are given out at KU like they’re going out of style. Parking on campus after 5 p.m. is hit or miss, and spots can be hard to find if you don’t know where to look. Parking at the Union is a sure bet if you’re really needing a spot, but they are all metered spots, and an expired meter will cost you $20.

Even if you park in allowed lots, like the Rec Center with a special permit, the walk to classes is still a bit long. Thankfully, the University has an extensive bus system, and you can always find a convenient bus stop. Students living within a reasonable distance from campus usually prefer to walk in order to avoid potentially messy parking situations.

Getting a Parking Permit
The parking permits are available for just about anybody and can be purchased depending on your needs. Each parking area is labeled by color: gold, blue, red, and yellow. There are metered spots within the parking lots as well. Campus is closed to through traffic until 5 p.m., therefore students have to find a spot around campus or in one of the big lots before then. The parking department oversells the lots, and sometimes students have a hard time finding a spot.
