4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: It's a really lovely college town. There are great places to eat, the living is good, but it can be a bit small. There comes a point when you become a local to the various places; not much to really experience newly.

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: I absolutely love where I go to school. It's a great place for students and residents as well. The people are friendly and there are a lot of events to attend.

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Lawrence has a great transportation system.

5 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: I love the local atmosphere! Lawrence in general is a college town. There's downtown, "Mass St." with so many dining, shopping, and entertainment options. The cost of living is fairly average. The Granada is one of the main event attractions; we've had artists ranging from Christina Perri to Chance the Rapper and YG.Besides KU events, there aren't very many sporting events that happen. Overall, the scenery is beautiful and the people are generally very warm.

3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: I love being here now as a student but am not entirely sure I would want to stay on much past that. Not that Lawrence isn't fun, I just think would want a new chapter in my life.

Students appreciate the unique experience that comes with living in Lawrence. It’s definitely a college town but also has much more to offer. It’s close to Kansas City, providing a nearby big city option if Lawrence starts to feel too small. Lawrencians are very proud of the locally owned shops and restaurants on Massachusetts Street downtown. Lawrence is different from other cities in Kansas because of its more liberal, free-spirited feel.

While college students are a big part of Lawrence, family life is visible, as well. Lawrence has been a strong city since before the Civil War, so it has deep roots that attract more than just youthful students. Its history can be seen in the old-fashioned shops and buildings, but there is also a mix of more modern stores like the Gap and American Eagle. It has recently become a trend for retirees to return to their beloved college town to spend their retirement in its relaxed atmosphere. Students often say life in Lawrence is a part of what makes their experience at KU great.
