4 College Sophomore

Computers: A computer is absolutely necessary. Almost everything is online.

3 College Junior

Computers: Wi-fi is pretty reliable on campus. Paying for printing is a pain, since not all of us have to print out loads of paper. I wish it were free.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: Speed is great everywhere in computer labs except in dorms, it can get pretty slow.

4 College Freshman

Computers: There are a lot of computer labs. The internet is slow when a lot of people are working.

4 College Freshman

Computers: Lots of computers aroud. Mainly in the library, but you can get to a computer if you really need one for hard work within 10 minutes if you're on campus. The first two weeks back from summer or a major break, can stress the network, because everyone is trying to log on at the same time.

Students have different opinions about computers and accessibility on campus. While there are many different labs on campus, the most popular areas in the libraries are often occupied to the point where there is not a free computer during the middle of the day. To combat this problem, the University offers laptops that can be checked out in the libraries and other labs around campus. The different labs on campus provide a great variety of programs, from basic things like Word to video editing and Adobe programs.

Campus buildings have access to fast wireless Internet, but the Internet in the dorms can sometimes be unreliable. While bringing a computer to KU isn’t a necessity, most students bring one because of the convenience. Professors post grades online and send frequent e-mails about classes and schedules, so not having a computer nearby could potentially hamper your ability to stay on top of things in classes.
